Matthew Dumba will be given a chance to make the Wild in camp this season.
The 2012 first-round pick who is only 18 years old stuck with the team for learning purposes for eight days last season. The defenseman will either play in the AHL or NHL next season. "I don't think you're going to corner him out. He's a dynamic kid the way he plays the game," Wild assistant general manager Brent Flahr said. "We're not putting any pressure on him, but if you ask him, I'm sure he's coming to camp to make the team. Some of the things he brings is really attractive and we could really use, but we're not going to force him. We'll give him a good look." Dumba, who had 16 goals and 26 assists in the WHL last year, is a very exciting talent.

The Minnesota Wild have assigned Mathew Dumba to Houston of the AHL.
Dumba was a healthy scratch for the Wild's first four games of the season before they sent him back to the WHL. He had 16 goals and 42 points in 62 regular season games for Red Deer and had two goals and two assists in nine playoff games. He will be a good one and will gain some valuable AHL experience for now.

Mathew Dumba learned a lot in his short stay with the Minnesota Wild.
Dumba is on his way back to Red Deer of the WHL. "Coming into training camp, I didn't expect anything like this," Dumba said. "I didn't expect to stay around. It was a real good experience for me being able to stay up for these two weeks and just take it all in. I think that's huge for me, getting to know the guys personally and just knowing what it takes to be at this level. The things that happen every day, just being in the locker room, just the little stuff, the workouts, just everything that goes along with being in the NHL I've taken away from this." Coach Mike Yeo said that Dumba was a sponge during training camp and the first week of the season and that should bode well for him the rest of the season.

The Minnesota Wild sent Mathew Dumba down to the minors in exchange for fellow blueliner Marco Scandella.
Dumba was a healthy scratch in Minnesota's first four contests, ostensibly there to get "experience" even if that didn't come during actual games. Scandella tallied 12 points in 24 AHL games with the Houston Aeros.

Matthew Dumba will be a healthy scratch again Tuesday against the Nashville Predators.
Dumba, 18, is being kept around the team for the "experience," according to coach Mike Yeo. He'll likely be returned to juniors after his fifth game with the club.

Matthew Dumba, 18, made the Minnesota Wild but he almost certainly will be sitting out when the team opens its season against the Colorado Avalanche tonight.
That's because Tom Gilbert, who was iffy with a groin injury, has declared himself good to go.

Mathew Dumba will begin the 2013 season with the Minnesota Wild.
Wild coach Mike Yeo said, "He's earned it." The 18-year-old defender can play five games without burning a year from his entry-level deal and more importantly for Minnesota, his contact won't count against the maximum allowed at 50 unless he goes beyond that tryout. The team is already at the maximum. "It's pretty crazy," Dumba said. "These last five days have gone by so quick for me. It's an awesome feeling to be here right now."

Rookie defenseman Mathew Dumba has been impressive at camp thus far.
Dumba has had a tough time in junior hockey this season after being drafted seventh overall in the 2012 draft as his play was spotty and he failed to make the Canadian World Junior team. But he has put it all behind him and has impressed the Wild coach Mike Yeo. "I'm really happy with what I've seen from him," Yeo said. "He is going to be a really, really good player. It's a big jump; one week you're playing junior hockey, and the next week you're coming out and playing against world-class players." Don't expect him to stick although the Wild could give him a five game trial to acclimate him to the NHL lifestyle.

Matt Dumba is an underdog going into the Minnesota Wild's training camp.
"It'll be good experience for him," Wild assistant GM Brent Flahr said. "Obviously the odds are probably against him, but at the same time knowing him and his mentality, he's coming here to hopefully show well and make something happen." Dumba has 23 points and 51 penalty minutes in 42 WHL contests this season.
