Dumba celebrated his return to the NHL with a goal and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 7-0 romp over the Sabres. The shot was a terrifically nice one, beating the glove of Buffalo goalie Jhonas Enroth. But if we're honest with ourselves, an NHL goaltender is essentially expected to stop every shot from so far away -- Dumba fired from near the blue line. Hey, they all count. Dumba has cooled off following his hot start at AHL Iowa, but still owns a total of 12 points in 17 games there. The 2012 No. 7 overall pick has a ton of upside, but at just 20 years old, he's still a work in progress.

Dumba has four points (two goals, two assists) in four games since joining AHL Iowa. The Wild called up Justin Falk this week when needing a defenseman because they want Dumba to get more time in Iowa, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Dumba was sent to the AHL after some lapses on defense, but he could force his way back to the NHL roster if he stays hot in Iowa.

The Wild assigned Dumba to AHL Iowa on Saturday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Dumba, after playing just four minutes in Friday's game, will head back to Iowa to see more ice time. He was replaced on the roster by fellow defenseman Justin Falk.

Dumba will likely be inactive Tuesday against the Devils, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Dumba is a minus-four in his last three games and has made some gaffes on defense, so he'll head to the bench and it wouldn't be a surprise if he's sent to the AHL in the near future.

Dumba recorded his first goal of the season in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Stars. Dumba's second-period tally went down as the game-winner, after the goal gave the Wild a 2-0 edge. The 20-year-old blueliner probably won't produce any eye-popping numbers as a rookie, but the Wild view him as an integral player in their long-term plans.

Dumba had an assist and two shots on goal in 25 minutes of ice time in Thursday's exhibition loss to Pittsburgh. Dumba had a strong preseason game as he's trying to win a final spot on the blue line. Dumba is eligible to play in the AHL for the first time this season, so the Wild are thought set to begin his season at AHL Iowa. However, a strong exhibition season could open a spot for him with Minnesota.

Mathew Dumba will go into the 2014-15 campaign with the goal of spending the full season with the Wild. Dumba played for Minnesota, Team Canada, and the WHL Portland Winterhawks in 2013-14. "I was all over the map," Dumba said. "But it was fun every step of the way. I was learning something new every day when I was up here with Minnesota." He's not guaranteed a roster spot going into training camp, but he's certainly got a fair shot. The Wild are only have four blueliners signed to one-way contracts, but Dumba will be fighting with Christian Folin, Jonathon Blum, Jonas Brodin, and others for the remaining spots.
