Mathew Dumba will go into the 2014-15 campaign with the goal of spending the full season with the Wild. Dumba played for Minnesota, Team Canada, and the WHL Portland Winterhawks in 2013-14. "I was all over the map," Dumba said. "But it was fun every step of the way. I was learning something new every day when I was up here with Minnesota." He's not guaranteed a roster spot going into training camp, but he's certainly got a fair shot. The Wild are only have four blueliners signed to one-way contracts, but Dumba will be fighting with Christian Folin, Jonathon Blum, Jonas Brodin, and others for the remaining spots.

In retrospect, Mathew Dumba feels he benefited from spending another season with WHL Portland. Dumba started the 2013-14 campaign with the Minnesota Wild, but after participating in just 13 NHL contests, they finally sent him down in January. He went on to record eight goals and 24 points in 27 WHL contests and then another 18 points in 21 playoff games with the Portland Winterhawks. "Everything happens for a reason; maybe I didn't see it at the start," Dumba said. "That meeting, when I found out I was going to go back to junior, I was pretty disappointed about that, obviously. Everyone's dream is to get to the NHL and stay there, and that certainly was mine. But I've seen the development in my game and what it's done for me, and now coming back, I'm looking forward to using all of that and trying to make it full time this year."

Mathew Dumba has been sent to WHL Portland. Dumba was loaned from the Minnesota Wild to Team Canada for the 2014 World Junior Championship. That gave Minnesota some extra time to weigh their options. Sending him to the juniors means that Minnesota won't be using Dumba anymore in 2013-14, but he'll get a lot more playing time at that level. He averaged just 12:27 minutes per game in 13 contests with Minnesota.

Mathew Dumba will either return to the Minnesota Wild or be assigned to Portland of the WHL. He went over to Sweden to play in the World Junior Championships with Canada, where he had one assist, 12 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating in seven games. The Wild didn't have a decision in place as of Sunday night. With Jared Spurgeon hurt, Dumba may be able to provide some depth to the big club's back end.

Mathew Dumba has been loaned to Team Canada for the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship. Dumba has two points in 13 games with Minnesota this season. He's got a ton of potential, but has been averaging just 12:27 minutes per contest with Minnesota. With that in mind, it's not surprising that the Wild would let him play in the international tournament where he's sure to get top minutes. The bigger question is if Minnesota will bring him back afterwards or if they'll allow him to return to the WHL.

Mathew Dumba will suit up Saturday night after being scratched for four consecutive games. The contest is also significant because it will mark his 10th NHL appearance of the season. That means that the first year of his entry-level contract will go into the books. Dumba has two points and a minus-2 rating in nine matches.

The Minnesota Wild haven't decided if Mathew Dumba will stay with the team or return to the Western Hockey League. Dumba has played in nine games and this will count as the first season of his entry-level contract once he reaches the 10-game mark. The Wild might decide to make Dumba a healthy scratch on Friday to buy themselves a little more time.
