Versteeg (hand) was activated from long-term injured reserve and will play Wednesday against the Blackhawks, ESPN Chicago reports.Versteeg skated on the third line with Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell during the Blackhawks' morning session, and figures to remain there for his first game since Jan. 1. Coach Joel Quenneville indicated that he's expecting Versteeg to contribute right away, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to see the forward log close to his usual 16 minutes of ice time immediately. In order to make room for Versteeg, who tallied nine goals and 18 assists in 34 games prior to the injury, the Blackhawks reassigned Joakim Nordstrom to AHL Chicago.

Versteeg (hand) will likely return for Wednesday's game against Vancouver or Friday's game against New Jersey, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Versteeg continues to target a return to action next week, so his involvement in Thursday's practice seemingly aligns with that goal. He'll likely attempt to get in some contact work over the weekend or early next week before a return is considered.

Coach Joel Quenneville said he expects to have Versteeg available early in the Blackhawks' homestand that begins Feb. 9, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Versteeg will miss the final three games of the team's current road trip, but he continues to skate on his own back in Chicago. He suffered the hand fracture back on Jan. 1 after absorbing a shot, but seems to be recovering well following a surgical procedure. The impending return would represent a boon for the Blackhawks, who had been using Versteeg as a top-six player at certain points this season. He's collected nine goals and 27 points over 34 games.

Versteeg (hand) isn't expected to play during the Blackhawks' six-game road trip that kicks off Wednesday in Los Angeles, Eric Lear of Blackhawks TV reports.
Versteeg instead remained in Chicago, taking to the ice Wednesday morning for conditioning work. Because he's dealing with a fractured hand rather than a lower-body ailment, Versteeg's presence on the ice won't mean much until he's cleared to absorb contact.

Versteeg, who underwent surgery after suffering a left hand injury back on Jan. 1, could miss more time than initially estimated, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Originally, the estimate was that Versteeg would be sidelined for about four weeks, but coach Joel Quenneville acknowledged Wednesday that "it's probably going to be a little bit more than that."

Versteeg is expected to miss about a month due to his left hand injury, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The long-term nature of the injury prompted the team to promote top prospect Teuvo Teravainen from AHL Rockford, though it's likely Patrick Sharp that will get the first crack at filling in for Versteeg on the second line. With nine goals and 18 assists across 34 games, Versteeg had been in the midst of a resurgent year with the Blackhawks, but this latest setback may prevent him from delivering a 50-point season.

The Blackhawks will not fully evaluate Versteeg (hand) until retuning to Chicago on Friday, but head coach Joel Quenneville said following Thursday's game that Versteeg "could be out a bit."
Versteeg was forced from Thursday's game in the third period after suffering a left hand injury, and it appears he may be facing an extended absence. Expect Versteeg's status to be updated after the Blackhawks' medical staff is able to examine his injury.
