The playoff series between the Ducks and Kings started in storybook fashion for John Gibson and ended Friday night with a chapter he'll want to rewrite.
Gibson, the Ducks' 20-year-old goalie prodigy, had a sterling Game 4 shutout that got his team even in the best-of-seven set. It ended Friday with him watching from the bench in the second period. The Kings blitzed him for four goals on 18 shots and chased him from the game two minutes into the second period, dealing the seemingly unfazed rookie the lowest of moments in a 6-2 Game 7 rout. Gibson said: "We weren't ready from the start. I didn't make the saves I had to make and we lost the game." Teammate Andrew Cogliano said: "I think a lot of the buzz is going to be about him and I think that's unfortunate because he was in a pretty tough spot and he's a young guy. Obviously he didn't have the game he wanted to. I'm sure he can say that for himself. I don't think he deserves any of the blame for this loss."

John Gibson was yanked after allowing four goals in the first 22 minutes of an ugly 6-2 Game 7 loss for the hometown Ducks on Friday night versus L.A.
Gibson earned two massive wins for Anaheim in Games 4 & 5 in the series, proving he could be a star that was raised through the U.S. National Team Development Program. But Game 7 was not a pleasant evening for the rookie, as the Kings hammered the Ducks, overcame 3-2 deficit in the series and trudged on to the Western Conference Finals.

John Gibson is expected to play between the pipes on Friday.
That's not a surprise, but we'll mention it anyways in case you thought that the Ducks might shy away from starting the 20-year-old Gibson in a Game 7. He has a 1.69 GAA and .946 save percentage in three playoff contests.

John Gibson is determined to continue to make the most of the opportunity that he's been given.
Gibson was thrown into the Ducks net in the middle of the second round and has posted a 1.69 GAA and .946 save percentage in three contests thus far. However, there are questions about whether or not the pressure will impact the 20-year-old in Game 7 on Friday. "I think anytime you're in a Game 7 it's a little bit different and it's obviously one of the biggest series (ever) in California," Gibson said. "We're looking forward to it and I think having it at home will be extra special."

It sounds like John Gibson plans to shrug off the weak goal he allowed to Trevor Lewis in the Ducks' 2-1 loss on Wednesday.
"It was just one shot. It happens," Gibson said. He's never played on a stage this big and it would be a big test for the 20-year-old if he's asked to start in Game 7 against Los Angeles. Aside from that one misstep, he's been superb in the playoffs as he has a 1.69 GAA and .946 save percentage in three contests.

John Gibson stopped 21 of 23 shots in Anaheim's 2-1 loss to Los Angeles in Game 6 of their second round playoff series on Wednesday evening.
Gibson give up his first bad goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs when Trevor Lewis skated down the left wing with Bryan Allen defending and wristed a low shot that slipped through Gibson. Nonetheless, Gibson has been sensational for the Ducks and he should get a start in Game 7 on Friday night.

John Gibson stopped 39 of 42 shots in Anaheim's 4-3 win over Los Angeles Monday night at Honda Center.
The Ducks received another strong performance from 20-year-old rookie goalie Gibson, who made 39 saves and has stopped 67 of 70 shots in the first two Stanley Cup Playoff games of his career. Gibson is now the number one goaltender in Anaheim and he should start again in Game 6.

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau, who has been secretive about who he will start at times during the playoffs, was willing to name his starter for Game 5.
John Gibson will play between the pipes after posting a 28-save shutout in Game 4. That was his NHL postseason debut and just his fourth NHL game in total, but the Ducks have struggled to find a reliable starter in the playoffs, so they would love it if Gibson ran away with the job.

John Gibson became the youngest goaltender to get a shutout in his playoff debut on Saturday.
Gibson picked up the shutout at the age of 20 years and 330 days, besting the mark of Chris Osgood. He is not the youngest goalie ever to record a shutout as Carey Price was 92 days younger when he recorded his first whitewash in 2008. Gibson will get the start in goal for the Ducks on Monday as Jonas Hiller will be on the bench.

The Anaheim Ducks' Andrew Cogliano says he's never seen a goalie like teammate John Gibson, who shut out the Los Angeles Kings Saturday in the first post-season game of his NHL career
Cogliano said: "I've never seen a goalie like him, really. He's really calm. Before the game it looked like he was getting ready for a preseason game. You get a little scared when you're looking at him preparing. And then he goes out and plays like that." Gibson made 28 saves in the Ducks' 2-0 victory over the Kings. He will be starting Game 5 on Tuesday.
