The playoff series between the Ducks and Kings started in storybook fashion for John Gibson and ended Friday night with a chapter he'll want to rewrite.
Gibson, the Ducks' 20-year-old goalie prodigy, had a sterling Game 4 shutout that got his team even in the best-of-seven set. It ended Friday with him watching from the bench in the second period. The Kings blitzed him for four goals on 18 shots and chased him from the game two minutes into the second period, dealing the seemingly unfazed rookie the lowest of moments in a 6-2 Game 7 rout. Gibson said: "We weren't ready from the start. I didn't make the saves I had to make and we lost the game." Teammate Andrew Cogliano said: "I think a lot of the buzz is going to be about him and I think that's unfortunate because he was in a pretty tough spot and he's a young guy. Obviously he didn't have the game he wanted to. I'm sure he can say that for himself. I don't think he deserves any of the blame for this loss."
