Gibson has been confirmed as the starter for Friday's game against the Blue Jackets, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. While Gibson has been surpassed by Frederik Andersen on the team's depth chart, coach Bruce Boudreau stated that he still intends to give the 21-year-old semi-frequent action in order to build his confidence. Boudreau will instead save the red-hot Andersen for the more critical matchup of the weekend, when the division-rival Sharks come to Anaheim.

Gibson was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and looks on track to get the start Friday against the Blue Jackets, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. Since Gibson's six-goal debacle in the Ducks' season-opening loss to the Penguins, Frederik Andersen has reeled off wins in each of his last six starts to solidify himself as the team's top goaltender. As a result, Gibson could only be used sparingly while Andersen continues to guide the Ducks to victories. Even a respectable outing by Gibson on Friday might not be enough for him to significantly cut into Andersen's workload.

The Ducks recalled Gibson from AHL Norfolk on Monday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. Gibson earned the first start of the season for the Ducks, but gave up six goals on 39 shots in a loss to the Penguins. He'll return from the AHL and try to prove himself once again when he gets the opportunity.

Gibson was reassigned to AHL Norfolk on Wednesday. Gibson started against the Penguins last Thursday but allowed six goals on 39 shots in the game. The team announced that he will start two games with Norfolk and will then return to Anaheim. He is expected to share time between the two levels this season as the Ducks try to get him some consistent playing time.

The Ducks will turn back to Gibson in the second of back-to-back contests as they face off with the Flyers, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. Gibson looks to bounce back after the Ducks season opener, in which he surrendered six goals to the Penguins. His trip back to his hometown of Pittsburgh did not go so well for the young kid, but Coach Bruce Boudreau has confidence in him. He also noted that his plans were to play each netminder twice on the four game road trip they finish up Tuesday. He will likely square off against Steve Mason in an interesting contest. Employ him as you regularly would.

Gibson was ripped for six goals on 39 shots in Thursday's season-opening loss to the Penguins. Gibson had a strong debut with the Ducks late last season and into the playoffs, but this was not the way he wanted to start the new year. There were some softies in here, which could lead to Frederik Andersen making the start Saturday in Detroit.

Gibson is lined up to start Thursday's season opener against the Penguins, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. Gibson was the first goalie off the ice following Thursday's morning skate, which indicates he will get the nod in the Ducks' season opener over Frederik Andersen. The two figure to share the goaltending duties for the Ducks in some fashion, but it appears Gibson has the upper hand early on.

Gibson was first off the ice and will get the nod in net tonight as the Ducks battle the Kings in Los Angeles, NHL.com's Curtis Zupke tweets. After a tough outing in his first preseason appearance, Gibson will get another shot at not only impressing the coaching staff, but beating the team that knocked the Ducks out of the playoffs a season ago. Gibson played in four games against the Kings in the 2013-14 playoffs going 2-2, with a 2.25 GAA and .905 SV%, including a 28 save shutout. The Pittsburgh native is likely going to start the season as Fredrik Andersen's backup, but he should see quite a few starts this season. Andersen blanked the Avs in his only preseason appearance thus far.

Gibson will battle Frederik Andersen for duties as the Ducks' No. 1 netminder in training camp, NHL.com's Curtis Zupke reports. While Andersen, a fellow second-year goalie, probably has the advantage heading into camp since he played well in a larger sample of games than Gibson, the 21-year-old certainly proved his mettle for the Ducks in the postseason. Thrust into action for the final four games of the team's second-round series with the Kings, Gibson saved 102 of 111 shots (.919 save%) and turned in a shutout in Game 4, convincing the Ducks to let veteran Jonas Hiller walk in free agency. With an outstanding showing in camp, Gibson could very well beat out Andersen, but there's an equally real possibility he could start the season in the minors. Both young goalies are best off playing regularly somewhere while they're still developing, so it wouldn't be surprise if veteran Jason LaBarbera ended up opening the campaign as the backup to the victor of the starting competition.

The future of John Gibson in net for the Anaheim Ducks just got rosier with the news that Jonas Hiller will not return next season. The Ducks will go with Gibson and Frederik Andersen in goal in 2014-15 and many think that Gibson will get the top job eventually as he is rated at or near the top of most prospects lists for players coming into the NHL. He is worth a gamble next season in pools as he saw some playoff action against the Kings in round two and looked quite good.
