Jason Spezza scored and recorded five shots in Ottawa's 2-0 win versus Washington Tuesday night.
He has 13 goals and 33 points in 45 games this season, which has him on pace to produce just 56 points. Spezza has been very close to a point-per-game player throughout his career, so his current pace is disappointing. He also has a minus-17 rating. Surprisingly the Senators have been playing well despite his lackluster play. The team has a 7-1-2 record in their past 10 outings.

The Ottawa Senators' Jason Spezza isn't all over himself but he realizes he hasn't been playing lately like a No. 1 center.
The Senators' top forward has five points (2-3) in the team's past 12 games. If the Sens are to make the playoffs, they'll need more production from Spezza as they prepare to hit the 50-game mark Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals. "I expect myself to get on the board every night and contribute offensively," said Spezza. "It's not happening but I feel I've played pretty good hockey and I'm trying to do what is best for the team right now." His minus-17 rating is hard for him to swallow. "It's been a frustrating stat for me this year," he said. "I've been plus-20s in the past. This year when something goes wrong it seems I'm on the ice for it. It is what it is. I'm mature enough of a player to know I have to be on the ice for more goals for, than against. . ."

Jason Spezza scored Wednesday after missing four games with a hip flexor injury.
He potted his 12th goal of the season on an Ottawa power play during a 4-3 overtime loss to Colorado. Spezza also finished with a minus-1 rating and was eased back into the fold with 14:40 of ice time.

Jason Spezza (hip) will make his return on Wednesday.
Spezza was sidelined for four straight games. He'll play alongside Colin Greening and Mark Stone. He's been a bit of a disappointment with 30 points and a minus-14 rating in 39 games, but we think that he'll do better in the second half of the campaign.

Jason Spezza (hip) could be back in Ottawa's lineup on Wednesday.
The Senators have won four straight games, while he's been on the sidelines. "For the short term, I want to make sure that wherever I play, I help the group out," Spezza said Monday morning. "But for the long term, I know I have to be playing good hockey. We're all disappointed with how the first half went. I don't think I had a very good first half or that the group had a very good first half, but there are signs of things coming. Hopefully, I can add to the group." He skated with Zack Smith and Mark Stone during Monday's practice.

Jason Spezza (hip) stayed behind in Ottawa, so he won't return Saturday night in Montreal.
He will continue to skate and get treatment for his hip flexor injury. It will be the fourth straight game he has missed. Spezza could be available for Wednesday's road contest versus Colorado.

Jason Spezza told the media on Thursday that his injury is indeed a hip flexor issue.
"I just kind of lost my balance at the start of the second period on the boards and as I was falling I kind of pulled something," said Spezza who was hurt on Friday Dec. 27. "I finished the game and felt all right and thought I'd be fine the next day. Then I woke up and I was sore." He doesn't expect it to be a long-term problem, but he doesn't have an exact timetable in mind for his return and he won't play Thursday for a third straight game. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Jason Spezza will not play Monday night against the Capitals as he is dealing with an alleged minor hip injury.
The Senators don't want this to develop into a serious injury so they are being cautious with Spezza and are keeping him out of lineup for a second consecutive game. The good news is that the injury does not appear to be a long-term one. In fact, Sens' coach Paul MacLean is hopeful Spezza will be able to play Thursday against the Jets.

Although there are few details about the nature of Jason Spezza's injury at the moment, the Senators do not believe it will keep the team's captain out of the lineup for long.
It is even possible Spezza will be able to play Monday against the Capitals. We will update Spezza's condition once more is known. For now, consider him day-to-day.
