Jason Spezza produced a goal and a helper in Sunday's loss to Dallas. His eighth marker of the season came on an Ottawa power play and he earned his assist in the final 10 seconds of regulation to help send the game into overtime. The Senators would eventually lose in a shootout, though. Spezza has 14 points in 13 games this season and his minus-5 rating should improve once the team gets back on track.

Coach Paul MacLean had a couple of very strange line combinations at Thursday's practice. Jason Spezza skated between Chris Neil and Cory Conacher, while Zack Smith was flanked by Milan Michalek and Mika Zibanejad. "I'm trying to get our team ready to play the Islanders and give ourselves the best chance, that's all we're doing," MacLean said. "We've changed (the lines) before, but at this point in time, with a chance to prepare (Wednesday and Thursday), we feel that's the way we'll start the game. But who knows by the end of the game?" The new trios probably won't stick, but it is interesting that MacLean is willing to start Friday's game with them intact.

Jason Spezza reclaimed his high scoring teammate Bobby Ryan to his top line Tuesday night. While Spezza and Ryan were split up, the Senators' offense has struggled just three goals in their past two games. Spezza, who has seven goals, and 11 points so far, and Ryan with six goals and nine points, are the team's two top scorers. Mika Zibanejad is taking over Ryan's spot on the second line.

It looks as if Jason Spezza will play Saturday night against the Sharks. He seems to have recovered sufficiently from what is believed to be a groin injury. Although he missed Wednesday's game and the Sens' last three practices, we expect Spezza will be effective in his return to the lineup. Make sure you activate him prior to Saturday night's contest.

Jason Spezza won't play on Wednesday due to a groin strain. Spezza is hoping to return on Saturday or Sunday. Senators coach Paul MacLean wanted to play it safe with this ailment because he's worried the injury is becoming chronic.
