Allen (undisclosed) didn't participate in practice Monday, Tom Timmerman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
The goalie left the Blues' final preseason game Saturday with an undisclosed injury, and while it's unclear what is wrong, it was bad enough to warrant another day of rest Monday. If he's unable to suit up for the season opener Wednesday, Carter Hutton would be the starting goalie.

Allen was removed from Saturday's preseason game after he was slow to get up following a collision late in the first period.
EDGE Analysis
We'll be awaiting details on the exact nature of the injury following the game, but often times teams are being overly cautious in the preseason. Carter Hutton finished up the game for Blues, playing the final two periods.

Allen will start in goal Wednesday night, facing the Capitals for a preseason match at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
Allen enters the 2016-17 campaign as the undisputed goalie starter for the Blue Notes. If he stays healthy, the 26-year-old should have no trouble making 50-plus starts over the course of the regular season. Net hog Brian Elliott was traded to the Flames this past summer, and Allen will have inexperienced puck plugger Carter Hutton as his understudy. Despite that it's the preseason, Allen's match Wednesday will hardly be a cakewalk since the Capitals are known as a high-powered offensive team and the lineup should feature plenty of regulars.

Allen signed a four-year, $17.4 million contract extension with the Blues on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Allen is now under contract with the Blues through the 2020-21 season. The 25-year-old seems to be in line for his most appearances to date during the 2016-17 campaign, after the Blues traded away Brian Elliot to Calgary just a week before inking Allen to an extension.

Allen is expected to remain with the Blues in 2016-17, keeping intact a timeshare with Brian Elliott, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Allen and Elliott were effective as a tandem in 2015-16, combining for 49 wins even though both tenders experienced significant injuries during the season. Allen, 25, is six years younger than Elliott and figures to be the goalie of the future for the Blues. He started 44 of 47 games this campaign -- not including five showings in the playoffs -- finishing with six shutouts and a .920 save percentage that ranked 24th in the league among 92 qualified goalies. Elliott stole the show for the majority of the playoffs, but they're expected to use training camp as the battleground for the No. 1 spot on the depth chart ahead of a new season.

Allen allowed four goals on 25 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Sharks in Game 5 on Monday. The other two were empty-netters.
EDGE Analysis
Making his second start of the postseason, Allen actually held a 3-2 lead past the midway point of the second period before Joe Pavelski struck twice in a span of 1:43. The Blues now have their backs against the wall down 3-2 in the series -- which shifts back to California for Game 6 -- so one would have to surmise that there's a good chance head coach Ken Hitchcock will go with Brian Elliott after Allen allowed seven goals in his two starts. Either way, look for that confirmation to come sometime before Wednesday's puck drop.

Coach Ken Hitchcock has named Allen the starter for Monday's Game 5 matchup with the Sharks.
EDGE Analysis
Allen performed well in his Game 4 start, stopping 31 of the 34 shots he faced. Unless he implodes, it appears the Blues will continue running with the younger of the two netminders moving forward. The 25-year-old netminder will look to assist the Blues in grabbing a second straight win to take a 3-2 series league when they go back to San Jose but the Blues have surprisingly played much better on the road this postseason.

Allen made 31 saves in Saturday's 6-3 win over San Jose.
EDGE Analysis
Coach Ken Hitchcock was looking to light a fire under his team and he did just that by starting Allen, who got his first start of the postseason. Allen and Brian Elliott pretty much split the starts evenly in the regular season, but the postseason blue paint went to the veteran until Saturday night. Expect him to get the next start -- it'll be hard to go away from Allen after this success.

Allen will work between the pipes Saturday evening, facing the Sharks on the road in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.
EDGE Analysis
The Blues have leaned heavily on Brian Elliott throughout the team's postseason run, but the 31-year-old netminder has struggled against the Sharks' high-powered offense during the Western Conference Finals, compiling a 1-2-0 record with a 2.59 GAA and .899 save percentage over three starts. To be fair, Elliott hasn't gotten much help from his teammates. The Blues have been shut out in back-to-back contests, and haven't scored a goal since the second period of Game 1. Head coach Ken Hitchcock will hope that Allen's presence in net will light a fire under the rest of his under-performing squad. The 25-year-old backstop played well during the regular season, posting a 26-15-3 record with a 2.35 GAA and .920 save percentage over 47 appearances, and could make for a somewhat sneaky play in daily contests Saturday against San Jose.

Allen entered Game 3 in the third period, saving two of two shots during Thursday's 3-0 loss to San Jose.
EDGE Analysis
Brian Elliott struggled for a second consecutive outing, which left coach Ken Hitchcock no choice but to bench the starting netminder. After the damage had been done, Allen wasn't tested in 8:33 of ice time, but one has to wonder if the 25-year-old will be looked upon if Elliott's struggles continue. It would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with the 2008 second-round pick, who sported a 2.35 GAA and .920 save percentage during the regular season.
