Gabriel Landeskog scored a goal in Djurgardens' 2-0 win over Tingsryds. Landeskog previously played for Djurgardens before heading to the OHL to play with the Kitchener Rangers. He'll begin his NHL sophomore season with the Colorado Avalanche once the lockout ends.

Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and an assist in his first game back with Djurgardens on Wednesday in a 3-2 shootout win over Orebro. He failed to score on two shootout attempts, but it was still a great way to return to his old team. The Stockholm native played two seasons of junior hockey in the OHL after his previous stint in Europe. Landeskog was named Colorado's captain in September after he captured the Calder Trophy, as rookie of the year, following the 2011-12 campaign.

Gabriel Landeskog has agreed to join Djurgardens for the duration of the lockout. Landeskog played for Djurgardens before heading to the OHL in 2009-10. The team was relegated to the HockeyAllsvenskan for the 2012-13 campaign, which is the second highest level of Swedish hockey.

Gabriel Landeskog might rejoin his former team, Djurgardens of the Swedish Elite League, if this lockout drags on. Landeskog had 22 goals and 52 points in 82 games last season and went on to win the Calder Trophy. He hasn't played for Djurgardens since 2008-09.

The Swedish Elite League has reversed its prior decision and will now permit NHL players to sign temporary contracts during the lockout. The SEL had previously stated it required players to commit to playing an entire season in order to join one of its teams. There was speculation earlier in the off-season that Gabriel Landeskog might wish to suit up for his former club, Djurgardens, but that was diffused due to the pre-existing rule. There has been no word on whether Landeskog might re-consider now that the league has changed its stance, but it has been confirmed that the Avs new captain will not play in the AHL during the labor stoppage.

Gabriel Landeskog won't play for the AHL Lake Erie Monsters. Landeskog didn't want to get into the reasoning for that. He'll wait until mid-October before he starts to consider playing in Europe.

Gabriel Landeskog might end up playing for the AHL Lake Erie Monsters if there's a lockout. Landeskog was born in Sweden, but the Swedish Elite League isn't allowing rental players. In other words, if he wants to sign with a Swedish club, he has to commit to a full season with them, which is something he probably wouldn't be willing to do unless the full NHL campaign gets cancelled. Landeskog would also probably need to take out an insurance policy if he plays in Europe to protect himself in case he gets injured. Should he get hurt playing for the AHL, the Colorado Avalanche would assume responsibility and take care of his medical expenses. Landeskog has never played in the AHL before, he jumped straight from the OHL to NHL.

Gabriel Landeskog was thrilled to be named captain of the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. He said, "It's something you dream about as a kid - just being a part of an organization like the Avs, and then getting honored to put the 'C' on, especially with the history that this club has with Joe Sakic and Adam Foote and obviously Milan Hejduk, it's a pretty humbling experience." Milan Hejduk will wear an 'A' on his sweater instead now. Coach Joe Sacco said the 19-year-old Landeskog " is way mature beyond his years" and that he has a "natural leadership ability." Landeskog impressed fantasy owners with his rookie season in 2011-12 and he should build on that this campaign in his new role as the team's captain.

Gabriel Landeskog has been named captain of the Colorado Avalanche. Veteran winger Milan Hejduk told the coaching staff that he was relinquishing the role, so bench boss Joe Sacco handed over the "C" to Landeskog. The sophomore Swede is the NHL's youngest captain in history at 19 years, 286 days, which is 11 days younger than when Pittsburgh tabbed Sidney Crosby as their captain in 2007. Landeskog won the 2012 Calder Trophy, as the league's top rookie, after he registered 22 goals and 52 points in 82 games last season. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Gabriel Landeskog was humble after winning the 2011-12 Calder Trophy. Landeskog asserted that fellow finalist Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would have won the award if he stayed healthy all season. Nugent-Hopkins was limited to 62 games in 2011-12. Landeskog is arguably not as exciting a player to watch as Nugent-Hopkins, but Landeskog brings a lot to the table even when he doesn't have the puck. Landeskog had 52 points, a plus-20 rating, 219 hits, and 58 blocked shots in 82 games.
