It's unclear right now if Montreal will play Alex Galchenyuk more at his natural position of center this season. "It's a difficult position for a young player," GM Marc Bergevin said. "We didn't want to put a lot of pressure on him. We used him at center (in the 2013 season) on a few occasions and he did a good job, but we feel that, for the time being, he's better off on the wing." It's likely that he will spend most of the 2013-14 campaign on the wing as well.

Alex Galchenyuk scored two shootout goals to help the United States win the bronze medal game against Finland at the 2013 IIHF World Championships. John Gibson made 36 saves in the victory while Craig Smith wrapped up an impressive tournament with a goal in the bronze medal game.

Alex Galchenyuk recorded his first NHL playoff goal in Montreal's 3-2 overtime loss to Ottawa Tuesday night in Game 4. The rookie forward had two assists in his previous three postseason appearances. P.K. Subban had the Canadiens' other goal in the loss. Both of them gave the Habs a 2-0 lead in the second period, but they couldn't hold off the Senators in the third and eventually fell in overtime. Tomas Plekanec, Michael Ryder, Jeff Halpern and Jarred Tinordi had an assist each in the loss.

Alex Galchenyuk scored in his third straight game Thursday night. Galchenyuk was reunited with fellow rookie Brendan Gallagher on Thursday with Lars Eller manning the middle. Galchenyuk now has six goals and nine points in 10 games in April while averaging just 10:42 of ice time. He doesn't appear any closer to getting more ice time but is clearly making the most of what coach Michel Therrien is willing to give him.

Alex Galchenyuk found the back of the net Wednesday night. He scored his fifth goal and his eighth point in nine games this month. The 19-year-old forward has enjoyed a very good month of April. However, he has played under 10 minutes in Montreal's past two games, which is a little concerning. Galchenyuk has averaged 12:21 of ice time this season, but coach Michel Therrien doesn't appear to be very comfortable playing the talented rookie much down the stretch.

Alex Galchenyuk extended his points streak to five games with a second-period goal Thursday night. Galchenyuk has three goals and three assists during the stretch. "Galchenyuk had a good start and then it was hard for a while but the last five or six games he's been one of our best forwards," coach Michel Therrien said after the game. Galchenyuk struggled mightily in the middle of the season but might be worth riding in deeper leagues until he cools off. The rookie winger has six goals and 21 points in 40 games this season.

Alex Galchenyuk is not going anywhere, according to Montreal coach Michel Therrien. Buffalo has returned Mikhail Grigorenko to the junior ranks and New Jersey has done the same with Stefan Matteau, but the Canadiens don't plan to follow suit with Galchenyuk despite his offensive slump. The 19-year-old has only one assist in his last 10 games and he's playing on the third line, but Therrien likes what the rookie forward brings to the table. "He's playing a mature game," said Montreal's bench boss. "Sometimes he'll miss a few things, but we'll sit down with him and show him. He's part of every power-play meeting and every penalty-kill meeting. We know he's going to be there and he's going to be ready." Galchenyuk is still adjusting to the NHL game, but he has been decent at both ends of the ice while posting 13 points and a plus-8 rating in 28 games.

Rene Bourque may have gotten the overtime game-winner Thursday, but Alex Galchenyuk received just as much praise for his contribution to it. The rookie fired the pass that Bourque redirected for the win. The fact he's even receiving ice time during overtime says a lot about the coach Michel Therrien's confidence in him. "That's part of the learning process," Therrien said. "He showed a great second effort to stay with the puck going up against a very good defenceman in (Dmitry Kulikov)." Bourque said it best: "There's a reason why he's playing with us and he's only 19 years old. He's very skilled." Galchenyuk has eight points on the year.

Alex Galchenyuk was joined by new linemate Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher at practice on Monday. According to coach Michel Therrien "having a guy like Pacioretty will be tough to contain with their speed. He's got size." Galchenyuk hasn't scored a goal since the second game of the season, but he has been solid while contributing seven points in 11 contests.
