Montreal GM Marc Bergevin told rookie forwards Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher on Monday that would be staying in the NHL for the entire 2013 season. The 18-year-old has displayed some flash this year, while posting three points in four games, but he has also been fairly responsible defensively. Galchenyuk will live with his mother and sister in Montreal, while Gallagher will stay with defenseman Josh Gorges.

Alex Galchenyuk collected two assists in Montreal's 4-3 overtime win over New Jersey on Sunday. He didn't have a shot on goal on the contest, but looked dangerous while setting up his teammates. In four games this season, the rookie forward has three points and he'll find out shortly if he's going back to the junior ranks or staying up with the Canadiens.

Alex Galchenyuk netted his first NHL goal on Tuesday night in a 4-1 victory over Florida. He played at his natural position of center in the match, between Brandon Prust and Brendan Gallagher, after skating on the wing in his first NHL appearance. The Canadiens will probably use him at both positions throughout the year depending on the situation and his comfort level.

Alex Galchenyuk logged 13:06 minutes in his NHL debut. Galchenyuk recorded two shots on goal in Montreal's 2-1 loss to Toronto. He started the game on the second line, but was eventually moved to the third. "I thought he looked good," Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said, "He didn't put himself in trouble. He skated well, tried to make some plays. We saw that he's got the speed to play." Galchenyuk had 27 goals and 61 points in 33 OHL games during the lockout.

Alex Galchenyuk, who will start the season on the second line in Montreal, we wear number 27 for the Habs. The last player of note to wear the number ironically was Alexei Kovalev who recently signed with Florida after playing in Russia the last few seasons. Glachenyuk has a load of talent, and he will get a chance to skate with Brian Gionta and Tomas Plekanec on the Habs' second line. He may be able to avoid the expected fate of many other 18-year-old rookies who will return to their respective junior teams after their five-game trials. If you are in a keeper league we recommend Galchenyuk highly. Otherwise, temper your expectations for him and be pleased if he registers 20-25 points.

Alex Galchenyuk will be a part of Montreal's NHL roster. The Canadiens cut seven players before their practice Friday, but, as expected, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 draft was not one of them. "I was very happy," Galchenyuk said. "There's been no better feeling in my life so far. ... I won't lie and say I didn't feel any pressure. Obviously this is my first camp and being their first pick in the last draft, so I felt a little pressure going in. But I think I handled it pretty good."

Alex Galchenyuk has been turning heads at Montreal's training camp. He scored some pretty shootout goals at practice on Monday, but his maturity and speed have really come to the forefront during his first big-league camp. "I don't know how I look from the outside but I think I'm doing a pretty good job," said the third overall pick from the 2012 draft. "Physically, I'm pretty good and speedwise, I think I'm getting used to the pace." He should be with the team on opening night, but the Canadiens will carefully go over the decision when the time comes.

Alex Galchenyuk has begun training camp on the wing with Lars Eller at center and Brian Gionta on the other side. Playing on the wing isn't something that's new to Galchenyuk, as he shifted to right side from center this season in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting as well. Coach Michel Therrien said on the opening day of camp on Sunday that Galchenyuk didn't look at all out of place, while praising the top prospect for his skill and speed. Therrien plans to try him out at center later at camp.

Alex Galchenyuk will attend the Montreal Canadiens' training camp this week. Montreal head coach Michel Therrien insisted that Galchenyuk will need to play a minimum of 12 minutes per game in order to stay with the big club. The Canadiens may try the 2012 draft's third overall selection on the wing when he gets his shot in the show, but the long term plan for him is to play at the center position.

Alex Galchenyuk continues to lead the U.S. in scoring at the World Junior Hockey Championships. The Canadiens' prospect registered an assist, his fifth point in three games, in the American's 2-1 loss to Canada on Sunday. Winnipeg prospect Jacob Trouba scored for the U.S., his team-leading third goal of the tournament, while Columbus draft pick Mike Rielly registered the other helper.
