Alex Galchenyuk scored a goal and registered two assists in the United States' 8-0 victory over Germany in the 2013 World Junior Championship. The fact that the US beat Germany is not surprising in the least, but it is noteworthy that they won by a bigger margin than Canada. That's allowed them to gain an edge over the Canadian in the battle for first place in Group B. Team USA is now gearing up for a much more critical match against Russia on Thursday.

Alex Galchenyuk has carried a remarkable hot streak of 13 goals and 12 assists in his last nine OHL games with him into Team USA's selection camp for the fast-approaching World Junior Championship. He had a slow start to the year with Sarnia and admitted that the NHL lockout was a distraction. However, he has definitely hit his stride since then and is currently second in league scoring with 61 points in only 33 games. Galchenyuk has been moved to the wing this season, so that Sting coach Jacques Beaulieu could play him alongside Charles Sarault on the top line and the decision has paid off for them both. Galchenyuk is free to take more shots and get chances from the wing, which has led to 27 goals this year, while Sarault has piled up 41 helpers. The Canadiens may try the 2012 draft's third overall selection on the wing when he gets his shot in the big league, but for now he's slated to headline a talented group of Americans in Ufa, Russia at the world juniors.

Alex Galchenyuk will get a training camp spot with the Montreal Canadiens if the lockout reaches a conclusion soon. Galchenyuk has been an absolute force in the OHL this season and has had no problem living up to his draft hype. He will compete for a spot on the Montreal Canadiens' roster sooner rather than later and could even have immediate fantasy value if he cracks the Habs lineup.
