Free agent John Abraham confirmed he has no intention of hanging up the cleats following Friday's release by the Falcons. Abraham turns 35 in March. "Hopefully someone has enough trust in me and enough faith that I still got something in me," he said. "I still have a couple of more miles left on these wheels." Abraham is a situational pass rusher only at this stage, but he can still bring heat. He started 15-of-16 games last season en route to 10 sacks, six forced fumbles, and seven pass breakups.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution names John Abraham as a potential candidate for release. The Falcons don't have much cap space, and they have a couple of contracts to hand out this offseason, one to Matt Ryan, who has one year left on his deal, and free agents SS William Moore and LT Sam Baker. Losing Abraham would be a major loss since he's the team's only legitimate pass rusher. Atlanta mustered up just 29 sacks in 2012, and Abraham had ten of them. The Falcons could save $10.4 million by cutting Abraham and Michael Turner.

John Abraham triggered an escalator in his contract, raising his 2013 salary from $3.25 million to $4.25 million. Abraham just signed a new three-year pact with the Falcons last offseason, and the deal contains $4 million in escalators. Turning 35 years old in May, Abraham is still going strong, and he's only missed six starts over the past six seasons. He currently ranks No. 13 on the all-time NFL sacks list with 122 quarterback take-downs.

John Abraham (ankle) is active for Sunday's NFC Championship game versus the 49ers. Abraham will look to play more than the 15 snaps he played in last week's win over the Seahawks after "re-tweaking" the ankle. The Falcons declared QB Dominique Davis, OG Phillipkeith Manley, OG Harland Gunn, OT Lamar Holmes, DE Lawrence Sidbury, WR Tim Toone, and DT Travian Robertson inactive.

John Abraham (questionable, ankle) expects to start Sunday versus the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. "I feel good," Abraham said. "My workload was ramped up every day as the week progressed. Everyone is hurt at this time of year, but this is the NFC championship, so we all have to go." Coach Mike Smith believes Abraham can still push off his foot well enough to get pressure on dangerously elusive QB Colin Kaepernick.

Falcons RE John Abraham (questionable, ankle) participated in team drills during Friday's practice. Although Abraham was officially "limited," it was his first participation in team drills of the week. Abraham is going to be active for Sunday's NFC title matchup with the San Francisco. Whether Atlanta's top pass rusher will be effective on the field -- or be able to last four quarters -- remains to be seem.

Falcons DE John Abraham (ankle) was held out of Wednesday's practice. The Falcons are optimistic about Abraham's chances of suiting up for Sunday's NFC title game, but it's possible he won't get in any practice reps ahead of being labeled "questionable" on Friday's injury report. With everything on the line, Abraham will undoubtedly be active against the 49ers, but his snaps could be extremely limited.

According to Falcons coach Mike Smith, DE John Abraham's ankle injury is merely a "re-tweak," and he should resume practicing before the end of the week.

John Abraham conceded that he couldn't push off his sprained left ankle after aggravating the injury in Sunday's game. Abraham's explanation runs counter to coach Mike Smith's contention that the pass rusher's removal was "precautionary." Abraham vows to play versus the 49ers, however. "Oh yeah, you know me, you can't keep me out of that game," Abraham said. "We're going to treat the (heck) out of it."
