Coach Mike Smith confirmed that John Abraham "retweaked" his ankle sprain just before halftime in Sunday's Divsional round win over the Seahawks. Smith added that keeping Abraham out of the game was "precautionary," which made sense with a three score lead. Had the decision been purely precautionary, the Falcons would have re-inserted their most effective pass rusher with Russell Wilson dominating the game in the third and fourth quarters. Abraham's ankle will be a factor in the NFC Championship game.

John Abraham aggravated his ankle injury late in the second quarter of Sunday's Divisional round game versus the Seahawks. He's questionable to return. The Falcons don't have a pass rush without Abraham, which is good news for a Seattle team passing heavily after falling behind 20-0. Should Atlanta keep the lead, Abraham's ankle will be a story to monitor for the NFC Championship game. Cliff Matthews is in the game as Abraham's replacement.

Falcons RE John Abraham (ankle) and SS William Moore (hamstring) are both active for Sunday's Divisional Round playoff game versus the Seahawks. Dunta Robinson (head) joins them. Abraham was listed as questionable on the injury report but was expected to play all along. Moore returns after missing the final four games of the regular season. The Falcons inactives are QB Dominique Davis, WR Tim Toone, CB Chris Owens (hamstring), OL Phillipkeith Manley, OL Harland Gunn, OL Lamar Holmes, and DE Lawrence Sidbury.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora confirms Falcons RE John Abraham (ankle) will play in the Divisional Round despite being listed as questionable on the injury report. Abraham was often listed as questionable during the regular season, but he played in 16-of-16 games, starting 15. La Canfora suggested that the Seahawks will test Abraham in run defense early in the game after he was carted off the field in Week 17. Abraham does not typically play on obvious run downs, however.

Falcons head coach Mike Smith said that DE John Abraham (ankle) will practice on Wednesday. Smith made no mention of Dunta Robinson (concussion). Abraham was carted off the field in Week 17, but he'll be all systems go for the Divisional Round game versus the Seahawks. Expect him to work along the defensive front and attack Seattle RT Breno Giacomini as much as possible.

Falcons head coach Mike Smith said John Abraham is dealing with an ankle sprain but "fully anticipates" him be ready for the team's playoff game on January 13. Smith said both Abraham and CB Dunta Robinson (concussion) will both be on the field for the Divisional Round playoff game in two weeks. It's wonderful news for the Falcons, who rolled the dice and played their starters in Sunday's meaningless Week 17 game against the Bucs.

Coach Mike Smith downplayed the severity of the ankle injury that knocked John Abraham out of Sunday's game. "The early reports are that it's minor," Smith said. "We're not overly concerned. We'll definitely have an evaluation (Monday). We don't know a whole lot more." It sounds like Abraham will be available for the Jan. 13 game at 1:00 ET versus the lowest seed remaining in the NFC playoffs.

John Abraham was forced from Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with an apparent left ankle injury. He was carted to the locker room after having trouble putting weight on his foot. We don't want to encourage teams to rest players in meaningless games because coaches can't control the uncontrollable, but the Falcons have now lost two key defensive starters to injury. Abraham could be at less than full strength if he suits up for the Falcons' playoff opener in two weeks.

John Abraham was arrested on Monday on the charges of obstructing police and obstructing firefighters. They are misdemeanor charges. The Atlanta Police Department was responding to a woman threatening to jump from a building, and Abraham refused to leave the area. The woman did not carry out her threat. Abraham will not face any discipline from the NFL.

Per Football Outsiders, John Abraham dropped into coverage on a zone blitz more than any other defensive lineman in 2011. Strange. The Falcons struggled to generate pressure last season and Abraham is 34 years old. Dropping him into coverage doesn't appear to make a lot of sense. Now that Brian VanGorder is out and Mike Nolan is in at defensive coordinator, look for Abraham to pin his ears back even more. IDPers can pencil in double-digit sacks.
