The Redskins met Sunday at the Owners Meetings with the player rep for free agents Fred Davis and Rex Grossman.
Drew Rosenhaus reps both players. "Nothing was resolved" at the meeting, and "it's not clear" when either free agent's situation will become more clear. The Browns have made inquiries about Davis. The level of their interest is unknown.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Terry Pluto reports that the Browns have "looked into" free agent TE Fred Davis.
Pluto isn't sure if the Browns are serious about signing Davis, and adds that Cleveland is concerned about the tight end's Achilles' injury. Davis has been linked to the Browns and Redskins, but he may have to sit on the market for a couple of weeks while teams figure out if he is healthy or not.

A source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Redskins and Browns are "serious" about signing free agent TE Fred Davis.
Apparently, teams don't want to see Davis get further along in his Achilles' rupture rehab before making a commitment. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport suggests Davis is healthy "now" even though he sustained his injury just five months ago. If this turns into a bidding war situation, the Browns certainly have the edge over the cap-strapped Redskins.

Despite re-signing with the Redskins on Saturday, TE Logan Paulsen conceded that he does not expect to be a 2013 starter.
Just as we suspected. "They said they want to bring Fred [Davis] back," Paulsen acknowledged. "Their goal is to have him be the starter." Paulsen is a fine, block-first No. 2 tight end. Expect Davis to re-up with Washington.

The Redskins have reportedly told others that they expect to re-sign free agent Fred Davis.
The 'Skins have spent the offseason trying to soften Davis' market on account of his Achilles' tendon tear. GM Bruce Allen said they "won't know where he's at" until the spring and coach Mike Shanahan said that players "very seldom" come back from this injury at 100 percent. It appears they're angling for an incentive-laden contract that protects the team if Davis struggles in his return.

Free agent Fred Davis (Achilles) says he's "about a month" away from participating in on-field drills, and that his agent has had minimal contact with the Redskins.
"They haven't really talked to him yet," Davis said of the Redskins and his rep. "We're going to find out when free agency starts, I guess." Davis is hopeful of remaining in Washington, but allows he's "gotta be prepared for anything." He admits money will be a factor. We still think he'll most likely re-up with the 'Skins.

Updating an earlier item, free agent Fred Davis (Achilles) has been cleared to resume running and "ramp up his physical activity."
Earlier reports on Davis' current level of physical activity were vague, but he's indeed expected to be "completely healthy" when OTAs begin in May. That strains belief for a player who just reached the four-month barrier in his rehab, but Davis now has a good chance of being 100 percent for training camp. According to the Washington Post, the Redskins remain unlikely to use the franchise tag on Davis for the second consecutive year. They prefer to hold off talks until later in the spring, when they can "better gauge" his health.

"Several people familiar with the situation" tell the Washington Post the Redskins still hope to recoup some of the salary-cap space the NFL took away as punishment for dumping contracts into the uncapped year of 2010.
"They have a plan," one source said. "(They) have very good arguments." The Redskins have already been shot down in arbitration, so it's unclear what their "plan" might be. According to the Post, team officials have told players and agents they "cannot negotiate in earnest until the salary cap matter is resolved." They're hoping to have a resolution before the end of the week. It's highly unlikely the situation changes.
