The Colts announced today they will not re-sign outside linebacker Dwight Freeney.
This isn't earth-shattering news by any stretch, as Freeney is a poor fit in the Colts' 3-4 defense. Along with Austin Collie, Freeney's contract will expire on March 12. "We will miss him, but look forward to his future induction into the Hall of Fame and Colts Ring of Honor," said owner Jim Irsay. The 33-year-old Freeney will attract interest in free agency as situational pass rusher. With Freeney's departure, the only holdovers from the Colts' 2006 Super Bowl championship team are Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis, Antonie Bethea and Adam Vinatieri.

The Indianapolis Star says it's hard to imagine a scenario in which free agent DE/OLB Dwight Freeney is back with the Colts.
After 11 years with the Colts, it's time to move on. The 33-year-old Freeney is an awful fit in the Colts' 3-4 and won't accept a league-minimum deal. A 4-3 team in need of a situational pass-rusher off the edge figures to come calling when free agency opens in March.

Free agent Dwight Freeney says it would be "great" to finish his career with the Colts.
Freeney was drafted by Indianapolis in 2002 and has spent his entire career with the franchise. "I don't know anything different," said Freeney, 33. "Ideally, it would be great to stay there. But it is a business, so we'll see. Right now, I'm just thinking about Indianapolis until they tell me otherwise."

ESPN's John Clayton believes the Seahawks could be a potential landing spot for free agent DE/OLB Dwight Freeney.
Freeney is coming off the worst season of his career after attempting to make the switch to outside linebacker in 2012, and is not expected to re-sign with the Colts. "If you're (Seattle), you call Dwight and say, 'Listen, if you're going to get big money in free agency, God love you, we support you 100 ways. But if indeed you struggle a little bit and need to take a little bit of a flier on a team, look at this team,'" Clayton thought out loud. Two weeks shy of his 33rd birthday, Freeney's market is hard to forecast, but we don't doubt he'll be looking to latch on with a 4-3 team.

Impending free agent DE/OLB Dwight Freeney is not expected to re-sign with the Colts.
Freeney proved to be an extremely poor fit in Chuck Pagano's 3-4 scheme, compiling just five sacks and 24 tackles in 14 games. 2010 first-round pick Jerry Hughes will have a chance to run with the position full time next season. After 11 years with the Colts, Freeney is wearing down but still can help a team out of the 4-3 end spot as a situational rusher.

A league source tells Pro Football Weekly that OLB Dwight Freeney is unlikely to be back with the Colts in 2013.
The writing has been on the wall for this one ever since Chuck Pagano took over as head coach and installed the 3-4 defense in Indy. Freeney is in the final year of his contract and making a whopping $14.035 million. His transition from 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB hasn't been a smooth one, as he's amassed just four tackles and one sack in five games played. Freeney, 32, has been battling an ankle injury for much of the year, too.

Dwight Freeney (ankle) is not expected to play a full complement of snaps in his first game since the season opener.
It's welcome news for Aaron Rodgers. "With those type of injuries, they kind of linger, having the high ankle," said Freeney, suggesting that he still has a ways to go before recapturing pre-injury form. High-ankle sprains typically take 4-6 weeks to heal. Freeney has been sidelined for three weeks.

Dwight Freeney (ankle) has resumed practicing in full.
Freeney has been out since Week 1, but looks to be on track to play on Sunday. If active, he'll be facing a Packers offensive line that gave up eight sacks to the Seahawks in Week 3, but then held the Saints sackless on Sunday.

Dwight Freeney (ankle) is listed as questionable, but has not practiced all week.
While Freeney has not been officially ruled out, all signs point towards it being extremely unlikely that we see him play on Sunday against the Jaguars.
