Dwight Freeney (high-ankle sprain) wasn't back at Colts practice Wednesday. Still only 10 days removed from going down, it's doubtful Freeney practices at all this week, and he almost certainly won't be active for Sunday's tilt with the Jaguars. That's a very good thing for embattled second-year Jags QB Blaine Gabbert.

Colts RE/OLB Dwight Freeney (ankle) is listed as out for Week 2. He's been ruled out, and the Colts may struggle to put pressure on Christian Ponder without their best pass rusher. Coach Chuck Pagano insists Freeney is "day to day," but all other indications suggest Freeney's status is more "week to week." ESPN's John Clayton reported Friday that Freeney has a high ankle sprain.

Dwight Freeney (ankle) was held out of Colts practice for the second straight day Thursday. That's "day-to-day" Dwight Freeney according to increasingly unreliable rookie coach Chuck Pagano. Although Pagano is intent on keeping the notion that Freeney might play this weekend alive, the Indianapolis Star's Mike Chappell believes Freeney may not return until after the Colts' Week 4 bye. That would be a huge blow for a Colts' pass rush that lost steam when Freeney went down in Week 1.

Indianpolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz is "hearing" Colts RE/OLB Dwight Freeney will be sidelined a "couple of weeks." Coach Chuck Pagano is insisting Freeney is day-to-day, but the Colts' rookie boss has already proven rather unreliable on injury info. Freeney did not participate in Wednesday's practice, and the lea leaves suggest he's going to miss Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano expressed optimism Monday that RE/OLB Dwight Freeney (ankle) will return "sooner as opposed to later." The Colts must have gotten back promising MRI results. Either that, or Pagano is just being vague. We'll know more about Freeney's Week 2 status by Friday. The Colts' pass rush evaporated Sunday when he left the game in the first half.

Dwight Freeney will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the ankle injury that knocked him out of Sunday's game at Chicago. Freeney never returned after leaving toward the end of the first quarter, but coach Chuck Pagano still considered him "day to day" at this point. The Bears defense wasn't the same after losing Freeney, failing to pressure Jay Cutler with Jerry Hughes in the game.

Colts DE/OLB Dwight Freeney left Sunday's season opener late in the first quarter with an ankle sprain. Freeney was without a tackle through the majority of one quarter. His return is questionable.

Dwight Freeney insists he's excited about shifting to outside linebacker in the Colts' new 3-4 defense. "Listen, when you've been doing the same thing every single day, you get real good at it, but this is exciting," Freeney said. "I dropped back in coverage a bit my first couple of years, so it's not completely unfamiliar." Freeney continues to say the right things after years of playing exclusively with his hand in the dirt, but his tune may change if the Colts re-open trade talks.

Dwight Freeney insists he wants to remain in Indianapolis, and that he's excited about shifting to outside linebacker. "I'm kind of old-school when it comes to that thought," Freeney said Saturday. "I'm not LeBron (James) trying to leave the team." Freeney also insisted he's at peace with moving to linebacker. "For me, it's just getting familiar with all those nuances. My line of sight, walking around (pre-snap), dropping into coverage." Freeney is saying all the right things, but it's doubtful he'll offer much protest if the Colts re-open trade talks in training camp.
