According to the Denver Post, free agent Dwight Freeney is now seeking Osi Umenyiora money. Freeney opened free agency asking for $8 million a year, then lowered his annual asking price to $6 million. His price tag has dropped yet again, as Umenyiora accepted a two-year, $8.5 million deal from Atlanta. Once the heavy favorites to land Freeney, the Broncos appear to be out of the mix after signing Shaun Phillips. They're going to start Derek Wolfe and Robert Ayers on the ends.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Total Access Thursday that the Lions are one of the teams Dwight Freeney has "spotlighted" on his free-agent tour. Per Rapoport, Freeney is looking at the Broncos, Lions, and Dolphins. Miami and Denver have at least some mutual interest, but it's unclear whether Detroit does. Rapoport also confirmed reports that Freeney will wait for a team to pony up a contract offer worth $6 million annually. The Lions currently have $7.2M in cap space. The Fins have $15.7M, and the Broncos $8.8M.

NFL.com reports free agent Dwight Freeney is seeking $6 million per season. Per NFL Network's Michelle Beisner, Freeney is "not rushing to get a deal done as long as he gets $6 million." Freeney is wisely seeking less than what Elvis Dumervil got, but is still going to have a hard time getting $6 million in a pass-rushing market that's all but collapsed. Freeney turned 33 in February, and his sack totals have slipped three years running.

Appearing on NFL Live Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Dolphins "have some interest" in free agent Dwight Freeney. Schefter didn't elaborate, but the Fins could provide competition for the Broncos, who want Freeney to help replace Elvis Dumervil. Freeney is 33 years old and coming off a five-sack season. Because Von Miller and Cameron Wake generally play the left side and Freeney has always been a right-side rusher, there is reason to believe Freeney would be a schematic fit in either locale.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are "reportedly" interested in free agent Dwight Freeney. Profootballtalk.com reported nearly a week ago that Pittsburgh had interest in Freeney, though that story has not been seconded by another media outlet. If the Steelers are keen on Freeney, they'll be competing with the Broncos and perhaps Saints to sign him. Of those clubs, Freeney would be the best fit in Denver.

Appearing on Total Access Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggested the Saints as a potential suitor for free agent Dwight Freeney. Rapoport cautioned that the Freeney pursuit would only occur if the Saints missed out on Nnamdi Asomugha and had "some extra money lying around." Freeney struggled in the Colts' 3-4 defense last year and New Orleans is switching to a 3-4. To this point, only the Broncos have shown significant interest in Freeney.

The Broncos have been talking to free agent Dwight Freeney's rep on Monday, but no deal is imminent. Freeney is Denver's top target to replace Elvis Dumervil at right end, and John Abraham is the fallback option. We'd expect something to materialize on this front sometime this week.

Updating a previous item, the Denver Post reports the Broncos would prefer to sign free agent Dwight Freeney over John Abraham. The Post initially reported Abraham was Denver's top target, but the wording in the same article has been changed. Abraham is expected to be pursued only if the Broncos "can't reach agreement with Freeney." Peyton Manning is known to be pulling for a Freeney signing. Abraham has more gas left in his tank.

The Denver Post reports the Broncos will "go after" free agents Dwight Freeney and John Abraham after losing Elvis Dumervil to the Ravens.
