Smart scored seven points (1-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 5-6 FT), grabbed five rebounds, and handed out two assists in 21 minutes during Thursday's preseason match against Real Madrid.
EDGE Analysis
It was far from a strong outing for Smart, who shot the ball poorly and racked up five fouls in limited court time. Chalk it up as nothing more than a bad day for Smart, who shot 4-for-5 from the field and dished out six assists in the Celtics' first preseason game. Since he's only in his second season in the league, Smart's play could vacillate wildly from game to game, but he appears to be entrenched as the Celtics' starting point guard.

Smart (fingers) is training at full speed, Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart had been limited after dislocating two fingers during summer league back in July, but after more than two months, he's back at full strength and was observed playing five-on-five Tuesday. The second-year guard is expected to again play an integral role for the Celtics after averaging 7.8 points and 3.3 rebounds as a rookie.

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart will miss the next two weeks after dislocating two fingers Thursday in a summer league game, according to the Boston Globe. Smart will need to undergo therapy as he recuperates from the injury, but assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry said the team is relieved that the issue is not more severe. "When you first hear screams, it's not always the best feeling in the world," Shrewsberry told the Boston Herald. "He'll be OK. He's in good spirits in the locker room. He's got the pictures on his phone. He was joking with the guys, showing it to them. And just like the warrior that he is, he comes back out to the bench and is leading the cheers and talking on defense." Smart, who will likely be the starting point guard this year, does not appear to be in danger of missing time in the regular season.

Smart never fully recovered from last season's ankle injury, the Boston Herald reports. "Last year, my ankle injury held me back from a lot of things. I couldn't do a lot of things that I was capable of doing in college, like getting to the rim. It kind of slowed me down," Smart acknowledged. "Now that my ankle's healing up, I'm getting to the rim. I'm beating people off the dribble and making plays like I was in college." Smart suffered a left ankle sprain and bone bruise five games into his rookie season. Upon returning, he became a three-point taker, attempting 4.0 per contest and converting at a 34 percent clip. Roughly 57 percent of his shot attempts were from distance, and he only attempted 1.9 free throws in 27.0 minutes per game.

Smart finished the 2014/15 regular season having played in 67 games (33 as a starter), averaging 7.8 points, 3.1 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 made threes per game. Smart impressed Coach Stevens with his competitive spirit, but will need to focus on improving his 37 percent field goal shooting during the off-season. Smart, Avery Bradley and Isaiah Thomas seem entrenched in a three guard rotation next season unless GM Danny Ainge is able to use his many draft picks to pull off a blockbuster trade.

Smart will not be out in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Cavaliers, Dave NcMenamin of ESPN reports. This decision was even easier for Brad Stevens after Smart showed up late to shootaround, reported by ESPN's Chris Forsberg. Registering four total assists across three playoff games probably didn't help either. Jae Crowder will take Smart's starting spot as the Celtics go big to try to prevent a sweep.

Smart started but played only 18 minutes in the Game 3 loss on Thursday. He shot 2-of-6 from the field with only one assist and no steals. Smart's shot selection was erratic Thursday, as the rookie continues to be frustrated by Cleveland's aggressive perimeter defense. The team turned to point-forward Evan Turner to run the offense during most of the Game 3 loss.

Smart started the Game 2 loss at Cleveland, but scored only 10 points with one assist, one rebound and one made three. Smart had the teams worst +/- ratio with minus-20 during 26 minutes of play. All Boston guards not named Isaiah Thomas are struggling with Cleveland's strong backcourt defense. The Celtics hope to turn things around in Boston on Thursday.

Smart had a team-high 19 points (7-10 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-5 FT) in 34 minutes in the win over Cleveland on Friday, Smart had a nice shooting game against the Cavaliers' second unit. He had his highest scoring total since Mar. 18 (when he put 25 on the Thunder). Smart has averaged 8.6 points on 48.5 percent from the field in his last five games.

Smart expects to play in both the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues this summer, the Boston Globe reports. The Celtics plan to field teams for both leagues, and when asked about his participation, Smart sounded eager about the opportunity. "I'm sure I will be playing that's the plan," he said. "First-year, second-year guys play. [Phil] Pressey played, [Kelly] Olynyk played their first two years, so I don't think I'll be any much different than those two guys were. It will be a great experience, to get more familiarity with the game. I will have known a lot more. It will be good for me." In the same media session, Smart acknowledged that the ankle he badly sprained back in November is still not 100 percent. "It's closer than it was a couple of months ago. Just got to stay on top of it, keep working on it to get it back stronger, get it to its full potential. I'm attacking the rim a lot more, getting in the paint a little more," Smart said. "It's still hard for me to explode off of it but I'm attacking a little more because it feels better."
