Smart suffered a left ankle contusion in Friday's matchup with the Warriors and will not return.
EDGE Analysis
Smart missed the first three games of the season with an ankle sprain and could now miss more time due to a similar injury. The Celtics are in the middle of a back-to-back set of games, leaving the guard a game-time decision for Saturday's matchup in Detroit. If he is ruled out, expect James Young to have an expanded role off the bench.

Smart supplied 15 points (6-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt), six rebounds, four steals and three assists across 37 minutes in Monday's 106-105 loss to the Pelicans.
EDGE Analysis
The four steals weren't surprising given Smart's standing as one of the league's better on-ball perimeter defenders, but his improved shooting -- along with the absence of Jae Crowder (ankle) -- continues to send his fantasy value on the upswing. Smart is only shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point land, but that's still a stark improvement from his career rates of 36.1 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

Smart started at small forward and recorded 12 points (5-13 FG, 2-7 3Pt), 10 assists, six rebounds and three steals across 34 minutes in Friday's 115-87 win over the Knicks.
EDGE Analysis
Smart had already been seeing sizable minutes as the Celtics' sixth man, and while the appointment to the top unit didn't lead to much more playing time for the third-year player, he managed to turn in his most well-rounded stat line to date. His shooting still leaves a lot to be desired, but Smart's averages of 13.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.2 three-pointers and 1.0 steal per game are helpful enough in just about any league format.

Smart will start at small forward in Friday's game against the Knicks.
EDGE Analysis
To this point on the season, Smart has been been playing 31.5 minutes and recording 13.5 points, 2.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. Now in the starting lineup as a result of coach Brad Stevens changing the lineup, he may see a slight uptick in minutes. It remains unclear if he'll stay in the starting lineup going forward.

Smart tallied 20 points (7-18 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 2-5 FT) and added three rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 36 minutes against the Wizards in a 118-93 loss Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Smart may come off the bench, but he's played at least 27 minutes in every game he's played this season. This is his first time hitting the 20-point mark this season

Smart posted 14 points (5-9 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two assists, two rebounds and one block across 28 minutes in Thursday's 128-122 loss to the Cavaliers.
EDGE Analysis
Though Smart started the second half of Wednesday's win over the Bulls at small forward with Jae Crowder (ankle) out, rookie Jaylen Brown slotted in on the top unit Thursday. Brown looked good while scoring 19 points and figures to stick with the top unit for the duration of Crowder's absence, but Smart, who can play three difference positions, should occupy a high-minute role off the bench. After a rough outing Wednesday in his season debut following a bout with an ankle sprain, Smart rebounded well for the second half of the back-to-back set. He showed uncharacteristic accuracy from both the field and three-point line, but most of Smart's fantasy value figures to come from his scoring, assist, rebound and steal totals rather than his percentages.

Smart (ankle) played 34 minutes in Wednesday's 107-100 win over the Bulls, producing seven points (2-8 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 2-4 FT), five assists, five rebounds, one steal and one block to go with six turnovers.
EDGE Analysis
Smart did well to fill up every category of the stat sheet in his season debut, but his familiar problems with shooting were readily apparent, and the high turnover total also cast a blight on his production. Even so, the Celtics' willingness to hand Smart big minutes right off the bat offers some encouragement about the opportunity he has at hand, especially with Jae Crowder (ankle) going down with an injury Wednesday. Crowder is expected to miss at least a week with the left ankle sprain, opening the door for Smart to potentially start at small forward Thursday against the Cavaliers. Coach Brad Stevens used Smart with the starters to begin the second half Wednesday while Crowder was receiving treatment in the locker room.

Smart (ankle) will play in Wednesday's game against the Bulls and have no restrictions, Scott Souza of GateHouse Media reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart will finally make his season debut Wednesday and will likely be the first guard to come off the bench with Bradley (shoulder) active and also having no restrictions placed on him. Smart should get some run at both point guard and shooting guard Wednesday, and his full return to the rotation will likely mean a decreased role for guard Terry Rozier.

Smart (ankle) said he will play in Wednesday's game against the Bulls, Scott Souza of GateHouse Media reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart has been yet to see the floor through the first three games of the regular season, but he should be ready to go on Wednesday night. If Smart plays without any restrictions, he should resume his role as the first guard off the bench in relief of either Isaiah Thomas or Avery Bradley. This would send Terry Rozier, who has served as the team's backup point guard in Smart's absence, back to more of a reserve role.

Smart (ankle) has been ruled out of Wednesday's season opener against the Nets.
EDGE Analysis
Smart's sprained left ankle has improved of late, but he remains without a firm return timetable. The third-year guard estimated that he'll be back in "about a week," which would likely mean he'll miss at least the first three games of the season. Following the opener Wednesday, Boston plays at Chicago on Thursday and at Charlotte on Saturday before returning home to host the Bulls next Wednesday, Nov. 2.
