Smart (toe) is not expected to play Friday against the Wizards, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart sprained his left big toe earlier in the week, and he sat out Wednesday's game against Indiana, enabling Isaiah Thomas to enter the starting lineup. That will likely be the case again Friday barring a sudden improvement to Smart's condition.

Coach Brad Stevens said that Smart (toe) had X-rays done, but may still play Friday against the Wizards, Jay King of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart's injury shouldn't keep him out too much longer. Isaiah Thomas will most likely start if Smart can't get healthy for Friday's game against the Wizards. Thomas tends to produce big numbers with big minutes, so look for him as a player of high fantasy value in daily formats.

Smart will not play Wednesday against the Pacers with a sprained left big toe.
EDGE Analysis
The Celtics will be without their starting point guard as they travel to Indiana on Wednesday. Smart's injury appears to be minor, and he shouldn't be held out for too much longer. Isaiah Thomas is next up in the pecking order on the point guard depth chart, so he'll likely get the start against the Pacers, and could provide sneaky fantasy value as a cheap option in daily formats.

Smart totaled 17 points (7-12 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), two rebounds, three assists, four steals, and one block in 39 minutes during the Celtics' 95-87 loss versus the Spurs on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Smart also turned the ball over only once, delivering an extremely efficient line against the title-contending Spurs. After struggling against the Raptors on Friday, this was a welcome sign for Smart owners. The sophomore lead guard will likely continue to show some inconsistencies throughout the year, but the two things that will be consistent are his minutes and effort.

Smart had his third-year option exercised by the Celtics on Friday, Bill Doyle of the Worcester Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart seems to be the point guard of the future in Boston and there's no surprise he'll be locked up through the 2016-17 season. The team still has another option on his contract for the 2017-18 season which also will likely be picked up in due time, barring something unforeseen.

Smart scored 13 points (3-8 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block in 32 minutes during the Celtics' 112-95 win versus the 76ers on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Smart was extremely efficient, and he also turned the ball over only once. Despite coming into the league with a reputation as a defender, Smart has shown serious progress since he entered the league. He'll likely continue to see as many minutes as he can handle for the Celtics going forward this season, and his ability to cover either guard position means coach Brad Stevens is able to play Smart alongside super-sub Isaiah Thomas in lineups as well.

Smart handed out nine dimes on Thursday, while accumulating seven points (3-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and two rebounds in a win over the Knicks.
EDGE Analysis
Smart looked like a true point guard here, as he was driving in the lane and kicking out to shooters at will. There's not really anyone competing with Smart for point guard minutes this season and he could play upwards to 30 minutes a game, if everything falls his way. If he does reach that threshold, Smart's an absolute steal late in fantasy drafts this year.

Smart (illness) will return to practice Saturday, Mass Live's Jay King reports.
EDGE Analysis
He will presumably return to game action in Monday's exhibition against the Nets, and he will have a total of three more preseason games to prepare for the regular season.

Smart (illness) will not play in Friday's preseason game against the Knicks, Jay King of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is the second game in a row he'll miss, as he's been dealing with an illness over the past week. The Celtics are likely just being cautious with their young guard and there's no reason to think Smart won't be ready to go come Monday's preseason tilt with the Nets.

EDGE Analysis
Smart will likely only miss a day or two, and Isaiah Thomas is expected to start at point guard Tuesday night.
