After being diagnosed with a concussion earlier in the week and sitting out Wednesday's loss to the Celtics, McDermott returned to play both halves of the Bulls' weekend back-to-back set. While he didn't produce any splashy stat lines, McDermott maintains an excellent 41.2 percent mark from three-point range for his career and can be expected to deliver strong production in that area whenever he sees the court.

Although his shot wasn't at its sharpest, McDermott made up for it with sheer volume on the way to his fourth straight double-digit scoring effort. The third-year pro was particularly aggressive on offense over the last three contests, taking double-digit shot attempts in each, including 18 tries from beyond the arc. Even with starting small forward Jimmy Butler's ability to take on a heavy minutes workload, McDermott still figures to log solid playing time as a viable scoring option on the second unit in the coming season.

McDermott tallied 22 points (7-14 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), five rebounds and one assist across 37 minutes in Saturday's 107-86 preseason win over the Bucks.

After starting in Friday's win over the Cavaliers, McDermott moved back to his more customary bench role Saturday, delivering his best outing of the preseason. Though the Bulls strengthened their depth on the wing by signing Dwyane Wade in the offseason, McDermott should earn around 20-to-25 minutes per night on the strength of his outside shooting skills. McDermott knocked down 42.5 percent of his three-point tries last season and has gone 9-for-21 from distance in his first five preseason contests.

McDermott failed to convert on any of his three attempts from two-point range, but did offer his usual strong shooting from distance, which is the main reason he'll likely enter the upcoming season with a rotation spot in hand. With the Bulls rolling out a starting lineup that includes Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler -- all of whom are average or below-average shooters from long distance -- there should be plenty of reason for coach Fred Hoiberg to turn to McDermott off the bench in order to help the team stretch the floor. Look for him to see somewhere in the vicinity of 18-to-25 minutes per game.

McDermott played 81 games for the Bulls last season and averaged 9.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.2 steals and 1.4 three-pointers in 23 minutes per game. He shot 45.2 percent from the field, 42.5 percent from behind the arc and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe.

EDGE Analysis

McDermott saw increased playing time over his rookie campaign and more than tripled his points per game average. McDermott still has a ways to go before he becomes a major fantasy asset, but he does provide value with his ability to contribute three-pointers and also make them at a high percentage.
