Williams will draw the start at power forward for Monday's game against the Spurs, Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite finishing training camp as the likely starter at power forward for the Heat, the team opted to go with their three-point shooting specialist Luke Babbitt instead, which has severely limited Williams' playing time up to this point. After logging a total of three minutes over the Heat's first seven games, he got his first extended action of the season Saturday against the Jazz and capitalized on the opportunity with 11 points and four rebounds over 20 minutes. After his solid effort Saturday, he'll jump into the starting lineup and could see his role on the rise moving forward, which means Babbitt will head back to the bench and could see a slight decrease in minutes.

Williams (coach's decision) didn't play in Wednesday's 108-96 win over the Magic.
EDGE Analysis
Coach Erik Spoelstra snubbed Williams for the starting power forward duties in the opener, opting to go with three-point specialist Luke Babbitt on the top unit. It was still expected that Williams would factor into the rotation off the bench, but Spoelstra surprisingly decided not to look his way, as Babbitt, James Johnson and Justise Winslow covered all the playing time at the position. The non-injury related scratch certainly isn't an encouraging development for Williams' fantasy prospects, but those who are rostering him in deep leagues may want to see how the distribution of playing time at power forward shakes out over the next few games before cutting bait.

Williams will come off the bench Wednesday with Luke Babbitt starting at power forward.
EDGE Analysis
Williams appeared to be in line to start at power forward when the season started after putting together a solid preseason, but it appears as though head coach Erik Spoelstra decided to utilize Babbitt's floor spacing abilities in the starting lineup. Williams should still see plenty of minutes off the bench Wednesday as Spoelstra continues to play around with different lineups for a team that is much different than last year's.

Williams scored 13 points (4-9 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-4 FT) and added four rebounds and four assists across 25 minutes in Thursday's 96-88 preseason loss to the Hornets.
EDGE Analysis
Coach Erik Spoelstra said earlier in the week that he hasn't settled on a starting power forward for the beginning of the season, but it would be a major upset at this point if it were anyone other than Williams. The former No. 2 overall pick hasn't dazzled with averages of 9.7 points and 4.5 rebounds over 24.4 minutes per game, but simply by staying healthy, he's been able to claim starts in each of the last five games. Williams' primary challengers for the starting role, Luke Babbitt (groin) and James Johnson (foot) both sat out Thursday, likely sinking their chances of climbing atop the depth chart.

Williams started at power forward and contributed 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt), six rebounds, two blocks and one assist across 24 minutes in Tuesday's 121-100 preseason win over the Nets.
EDGE Analysis
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has given starts at power forward to three different players (Williams, Luke Babbitt and James Johnson) in three games, but Williams looks like the top candidate to land those duties during the regular season, given the more diverse inside-out offensive game that he offers. With Chris Bosh (blood clots) unlikely to play for the Heat again, Williams could have some staying power in the starting five, although the presences of Babbitt and Johnson will likely prevent him from consistently seeing 30-plus minutes per game.

Williams generated 14 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block across 27 minutes in Saturday's 109-100 preseason loss to the Timberwolves.
EDGE Analysis
Williams played like he had something to prove against one of his former teams, finishing third on the Heat in scoring while filling up the stat sheet in every category. He's the frontrunner to open the season as the Heat's starting power forward with Chris Bosh (blood clots) likely having played his last game with the team and Josh McRoberts still recovering from a foot injury.

Williams will come off the bench during Tuesday's matchup with the Wizards.
EDGE Analysis
Williams came into Tuesday as the expected starter at power forward, but it appears the Heat want to give Luke Babbitt a shot first, as he has officially been announced the starter for the preseason opener. This doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, as Williams will likely get his shot to prove himself with plenty of games left prior to the regular season. James Johnson and Josh McRoberts are also names to keep in mind as well for the job, so there's expected to be plenty of mix and matching at power forward during the preseason.

Williams is expected to start Tuesday's preseason opener against Washington, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Chris Bosh's (blood clots) status in serious doubt heading into the season, Williams has emerged as the favorite to take over as the starting power forward alongside Hassan Whiteside in the frontcourt. Williams is listed as the starter for Tuesday's matchup, though there's still a chance that coach Erik Spoelstra could opt to try Josh McRoberts (foot), who won't play Tuesday, in the starting lineup at some point later in the preseason.

Williams signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Heat on Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams will head down the South Beach after spending the past season with the Knicks, where he averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks in 18 minutes per game through 80 games. The former second-overall pick could see an expanded role in Miami, especially if Chris Bosh (calf) is not ready in time for the beginning of the season. In any case, look for Williams to compete with Josh McRoberts for minutes at power forward.

Williams will opt out of his $4.59 million contract for the 2016-17 season and become an unrestricted free agent, Ian Begley of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams was a candidate to serve as the Knicks' starting power forward entering last season, but the emergence of rookie Kristaps Porzingis resulted in the veteran settling for a backup role. He provided a strong scoring punch off the bench with 9.3 points in 17.9 minutes per game, but Williams' low rebound rate and lack of efficiency from the field made his overall contributions rather hollow. Still, Williams' ability to put up points and his pedigree as a former No. 2 overall pick should prompt some team to sign him this offseason as a rotational big man.
