Williams failed to score in a season low four minutes off the bench Monday in the Knicks' 95-78 loss in Miami.

His minutes have fluctuated throughout the first 15 games of the season, but Williams saw the least amount of minutes Monday that he has all year. He's been able to score 6.9 points even though he plays only 12.1 minutes per game, as he continues to be slotted behind Kristaps Porzingis on the depth chart. Also, he will continue to battle with Lou Amundson for the backup power forward spot.

Williams is averaging 11.5 points and three rebounds over 16.3 minutes per game through the Knicks' first four contests.

EDGE Analysis

Since putting up 24 points in 21 minutes in the season opener against the Celtics, Williams has seen his playing time trickle downward in each successive game. It hasn't helped matters that he's shot just 8-for-21 over those last three contests, while gathering only five boards in a total of 44 minutes. Williams remains behind Robin Lopez, Kristaps Porzingis, and Kyle O'Quinn in the Knicks' frontcourt rotation, and it wouldn't be overly surprising if a now-healthy Kevin Seraphin is able to surpass him soon as well.

Williams came off the bench to lead the Knicks with 24 points (8-for-17 FG, 7-for-9 FT) and seven rebounds in only 21 minutes in the season opener.

EDGE Analysis

Williams lost out on the starting power forward job to rookie Kristaps Porzingis, but he was still able to make a strong mark in the opener off the bench. That scoring volume is unsustainable, though, if he's going to only get in the low 20s of minutes played.

Williams tallied 14 points (4-9 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 4-6 FT), two rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block across 19 minutes in an 99-87 loss to the Celtics on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Williams missed practice earlier in the week because of an illness, but that didn't seem to hamper him here. This has been a great preseason for Williams and he may play the most minutes in his career on a bad team like the Knicks. With that said, there seems to be an abundance of undersized forwards on this New York roster and some regular season gameplay will be the only way to know exactly what Williams role will be this season.

The Knicks won't play their next (and final) preseason game until Thursday in Boston, so Williams should have adequate time to nurse himself back to full health. Williams has been a standout performer for the Knicks during exhibition play and remains in the mix with Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle O'Quinn to start at power forward this season.

Williams amassed 14 points (6-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt), two assists, and five rebounds over 19 minutes in Saturday's 97-93 loss to the Hornets.

EDGE Analysis

Williams continued his stellar preseason, one in which he has flashed the talent that made him a first-round pick. The 24-year-old would certainly figure to be on the Knicks' final roster, and the only question appears to be how far up the power forward depth chart he is able to climb. Kyle O'Quinn and rookie Kristaps Porzingis currently stand in between Williams and the starter's job but no matter the outcome of their competition, Williams has at a minimum staked a right to consistent minutes in the regular season.

Williams poured in a game-high 21 points (8-12 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and added three rebounds, an assist, and a steal over 25 minutes in Monday's exhibition against the 76ers.

EDGE Analysis

With Kristaps Porzingis (left quad strain) sidelined Monday, Williams and Kyle O'Quinn both received extended chances to audition for the starting power forward job. It was Williams who shined the brightest of the two, surpassing the 20-point mark for the second straight game. Though he did turn over the ball six times, Williams made up for it by showcasing plenty of touch near the rim to go along with impressive range from deep. At the very least, the former No. 2 overall pick is making a strong case for an integral rotation role with the Knicks, as he's averaging 16.7 points on 63 percent shooting from the field during the preseason.

Williams tallied a game-high 23 points (7-11 FG, 9-9 FT), four rebounds, and a steal in Friday's 115-104 victory over the Wizards.

EDGE Analysis

Williams' strong effort resembled some of the offensive production he was able to generate in the final month of the 2014-15 campaign for the Kings, during which he averaged 14.8 points per game. The 24-year-old is fighting to carve out a role amidst a crowded power forward field for the Knicks that also includes Kyle O'Quinn, Lou Admunson and rookie Kristaps Prozingis. Williams has certainly flashed some scoring punch over his four-year career, but it remains to be seen if he will be able to maintain the consistency necessary to secure a prominent role this season.

Williams signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Knicks on Friday, ESPN reports. Following the reported signings of Williams and Robin Lopez, the Knicks' frontcourt is coming into focus for the upcoming campaign. In nearly two-previous seasons with the Kings, he averaged 8.4 points (on 44 percent shooting), 3.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 22 minutes across 141 outings.

Williams did not receive a qualifying offer from the Kings, making him an unrestricted free agent, NBA.com reports. Williams has failed to live up to the lofty expectations he had coming into the NBA as the No. 2 pick in the 2010 draft, and it's hard to expect much production from him going forward. He's had plenty of opportunities to step up and be a significant part of an NBA rotation with both the Timberwolves and Kings, but he's never staked his claim to being a big cog in the NBA. Some team will take a flier on Williams, but he'll likely flame out of the NBA in a few years, as he seems destined to be a guy who never realizes his vast potential.
