Johnson may have been playing with a bit of his spring in his step in front of his hometown crowd in Los Angeles, but the 29-year-old hasn't shown enough consistency over his tenure with the Celtics to convince us he'll be able to deliver these kind of outings with regularity. He was averaging only 5.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 assist in 16.6 minutes in his previous five games heading into Friday.

Johnson generated 10 points (5-6 FG), two rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 17 minutes in Thursday's 104-103 loss to the Bulls.

After essentially disappearing on the offensive end over the previous four games with a combined 19 points, Johnson bounced back with his third double-digit scoring effort of February on Thursday. However, he continues to be difficult to rely on from a scoring perspective overall, with his typically limited playing time also playing a pivotal part in capping his overall upside. He does offer some serviceable production on the glass, and has hauled in at least five rebounds in five of nine February outings.

Johnson's efficient scoring was the lone bright spot for Boston as the team shot a hair under 40 percent from the field. With the hot hand, the veteran Johnson received significantly more playing time than Kelly Olynyk (15 minutes) and Jonas Jerebko (10 minutes). Expect Johnson to return to his more typical 20 minutes Thursday as the C's travel to Portland and face the Blazers' more speed oriented lineup.

Johnson will start at power forward in Wednesday's game against the Raptors, Celtics radio play-by-play announcer Sean Grande reports.

The Celtics have started Jonas Jerebko at power forward for the last four games, electing to go with smaller, shooting-centric lineups to start things out. Johnson started in two of those outings with Al Horford (groin) out of the lineup, but now head coach Brad Stevens will start the two post players side-by-side against a formidable Raptors frontcourt that boasts solid size and athleticism. Expect Johnson to play his regular dosage of around 20 minutes Wednesday.

Johnson and Isaiah Thomas (39 points) were the only bright spots during a bad home loss to the Knicks. Outside of Wednesday night, January has not been kind to Johnson, with per game averages of 5.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, but a nice 1.9 blocks. Johnson starts, but his minutes fluctuate as Coach Stevens mixes lineups to leverage opponent weaknesses. The power forward is averaging 20 minutes per game this season.

Johnson played 14 minutes and was scoreless (0-0 FG) with four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block during a 103-101 win against Atlanta on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

Johnson (ankle) came into the game hobbled, and despite earning the start didn't see a lot of court time, especially with Kelly Olynyk shooting so well. Even when he's healthy, Johnson doesn't play a lot of minutes. He's only played an average of 20.3 minutes a game this season, and his productivity level has never been high enough to make him relevant in fantasy.
