Yonder Alonso clubbed a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Mets.
It was his only hit in four at-bats. Alonso only had nine home runs last season, including one in 169 plate appearances against left-handed pitching, but he already has one in 2013 after taking Jon Niese deep. Now that the dimensions are a little friendlier at PETCO Park, there's reason to believe we'll see some power progression in 2013.

Yonder Alonso is getting a scheduled day off Wednesday.
Alonso was hit on the knuckles by a pitch on Tuesday, but he already feels much better. It shouldn't be an issue moving forward.

Yonder Alonso went 2-for-4 with a home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers.
It was his fifth home run in the last nine games. While Alonso is hitting just .236/.263/.509 this spring, the Padres are expected to put him in the middle of their lineup until Chase Headley (thumb) or Yasmani Grandal return. Alonso should be on your radar in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Yonder Alonso launched his fourth home run of the Cactus League season on Friday, but it was the entirety of the Padres offense in a 3-1 loss to the Mariners.
Alonso finished the night 1-for-3. He's struggled a bit this spring, hitting just .212/.241/.481, but has socked four dingers and driven home eight runs. He'll be hitting in the middle of a decimated Padres lineup that will be without Chase Headley and Yonder Alonso early in the season, which could limit his RBI opportunities.

Yonder Alonso hit his first home run of the spring in Monday's 10-0 Cactus League victory over the A's.
Alonso's fifth-inning shot sailed high over the wall in right field. He's off to a slow start this spring, but that's not overly concerning. The 25-year-old is a very good hitter and could take on some value in deeper mixed fantasy leagues by the end of 2013.

Yonder Alonso had a nice night at the plate in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 and driving home the Padres' lone run.
His sacrifice fly off Ian Kennedy in the first inning gave the Padres the early lead, but that would be the extent of their offense in the game. Alonso has really picked it up as of late, hitting .444 (11-for-25) with a homer and 10 RBI in his last seven games.

The Padres blew an 11-5 lead when the Rockies scored six times in the eighth, but the offense picked up the bullpen with a run in the bottom of the ninth. It was Alonso's third four-hit game of the season. He's batting .289 with five homers and 31 RBI in 201 at-bats since the All-Star break.

Yonder Alonso hit a grand slam off Tyler Chatwood to account for all of the Padres' runs on Friday.
The homer was Alonso's eighth of the season to go along with his 34 doubles. He's improved enough in the second half of the season that his campaign no longer looks like a disappointment. He has 30 RBI in 55 games since the All-Star break after driving in a total of 23 runs in 83 games during the first half.

Yonder Alonso had a solid night at the plate as the Padres were shutout by the Braves on Tuesday, going 2-for-4.
On a night where the Padres offense couldn't get anything going against Tim Hudson and company, Alonso had the only multi-hit effort. While the power hasn't developed as quickly as expected, he's having a decent rookie season with the bat, hitting .276 with six homers and 42 RBI while holding down his first full-time role.
