Yonder Alonso (wrist) will not swing a bat for at least 4-5 days. The Padres want the contusion on Alonso's right wrist to heal and swelling to go down before he ramps up his activity again. X-rays have ruled out a fracture, but the team is awaiting results of a CT scan. "Obviously it's sore right now," said Alonso. "I didn't need to mess with my swing and screw it up. This probably makes great sense, although it's not what I wanted."

Padres placed 1B Yonder Alonso on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 1, with a sore right wrist. Alonso hasn't played since he was hit in the wrist by a pitch last Friday. While he was originally expected to avoid the disabled list, he's obviously still dealing with discomfort. Cameron Maybin (wrist) has replaced him on the active roster while Kyle Blanks remains with the club.

Yonder Alonso (wrist) is sitting out a third straight game Monday. Alonso was hit on the right wrist last Friday and is still sore. He expects to be ready soon, though. "I'm swinging the bat but the speed is not 100 percent yet," Alonso said Monday. "Nature is taking its course. Maybe tomorrow or the next day. It won't be long."

Yonder Alonso left Friday's game with a bruised hand after being hit by an Aaron Loup pitch. Alonso is day-to-day. The slumping first baseman was 1-for-2 before departing. If he can't play Saturday, then Kyle Blanks, Mark Kotsay or Jesus Guzman would start at first base.

Yonder Alonso went 2-for-3 with a homer Saturday in the Padres' 2-1 win over the Padres. It was his first homer since May 3 and his fifth overall. In 2012, he didn't hit his first bomb until May 11 and his second until June 13, finishing with nine. He'll easily pass that number this year.

Yonder Alonso scored the winning run on a Marco Scutaro error as the Padres beat the Giants 8-7 in 12 innings Saturday. Alonso doubled for the third time to reach base in the 12th. He came around to score when Scutaro failed to handle Nick Hundley's grounder. The three doubles matches Alonso's season total for his previous 79 at-bats. He went eight straight games without collecting an extra-base hit or scoring a run before coming through tonight.

Yonder Alonso made appearances at second base and third base in the ninth inning of Wednesday's game. That wacky Bud Black had Mark Kotsay pinch-hit for Alexi Amarista tonight even though the rest of his bench was used up. As a result, Alonso moved to second base, then slid to third with a left-hander up and then moved back to second. He had an attempt while at second base, coming up short on a diving stab. Anyway, if this gives him some extra eligibility in your league, he's now a whole lot more valuable.
