Stephen Drew (concussion) fielded grounders on Sunday. It comes a day after he resumed taking batting practice. Drew said Friday that he's still dealing with "slight fogginess," but obviously he's made some progress over the last 48 hours. However, he's still a good bet to begin the season on the DL. Jose Iglesias will handle shortstop while Drew is out.

Stephen Drew (concussion) will progress to taking batting practice on the field Saturday. Drew was cleared to resume workouts Thursday, but is still dealing with "slight fogginess" and isn't sure when he'll be ready to play in a game. While he hasn't been ruled out for Opening Day, it's a virtual certainty that Drew will open the year on the disabled list. Jose Iglesias is expected to handle shortstop duties for the Red Sox.

Stephen Drew (concussion) said Friday that he's still dealing with "slight fogginess." "There's times it goes away, and then it shows back up again," Drew said. Drew was cleared to resume workouts on Thursday, but it sounds like he might be shut down again. The shortstop has all but been ruled out for Opening Day, and it's certainly possible he could be sidelined for a long while. Jose Iglesias will start at shortstop while Drew is out.

Stephen Drew (concussion) has been cleared for baseball activities and will hit in a cage Thursday. Drew paid a visit to a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh on Tuesday and was told he could resume normal workouts. He seems unlikely to be ready for the start of the regular season, but it can't be completely ruled out. If Drew can't go, Jose Iglesias will start at shortstop.

Stephen Drew is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on Tuesday night to meet with a concussion specialist. The Red Sox left open the possibility that the trip wouldn't be necessary if Drew experiences improvement before Tuesday, but he continues to deal with concussion symptoms. It's increasingly likely that he'll begin the season on the disabled list. Jose Iglesias is the favorite to handle starting shortstop duties during his absence.

Stephen Drew (concussion) will likely visit a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh. The Red Sox won't make a final decision on the next step until Tuesday, but Drew continues to have symptoms related to when he was hit in the helmet by a pitch on March 7. Barring a rapid recovery, he figures to open the season on the disabled list. Jose Iglesias would likely handle starting shortstop duties in that case, though Pedro Ciriaco could also factor in.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said the "window is narrowing" for Stephen Drew (concussion) to be ready on Opening Day. Drew is doing some light throwing but is still unable to take batting practice. Barring a rapid improvement, it's not looking likely he'll be on the field on April 1 against the Yankees. Jose Iglesias would likely handle shortstop if Drew isn't ready, but Pedro Ciriaco and Brock Holt would also be in the mix.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday that while Stephen Drew has made progress in recent days, he's still "a ways away" from returning. They had been hoping that Drew would be ready to return for the weekend, but that looks very unlikely now. Since he is experiencing concussion-like symptoms, he will need to be cleared by an MLB doctor before returning to action. The longer he's held out, the more unlikely he is to be ready for Opening Day.

Stephen Drew is still experiencing concussion symptoms. The Red Sox were hoping that Drew would be able to resume normal workouts on Thursday, but it's not going to happen. Drew was hit in the helmet by a pitch one week ago. It's not clear when he might be ready for action.
