Stephen Drew (concussion) has reported improvement but must be cleared by Major League Baseball before being allowed to resume playing.
Drew has been sidelined since late last week with "mild" concussion symptoms. It sounds like the issue is just about behind him, but obviously all precautions will be taken before he can be deemed game-ready.

Stephen Drew (concussion) is not in Boston's lineup Saturday against the Orioles.
Drew is making progress from his concussion-like symptoms and should return to game action by next week. The 29-year-old is batting just .188/.278/.250 over his first six Grapefruit League appearances.

Stephen Drew is having "mild concussion" symptoms Friday, one day after being beaned with a pitch.
The Red Sox are saying right now that he might be action for a day or two, but it's always tricky projecting the length of the absence when it comes to concussions. Drew is batting just .188/.278/.250 over his first six Grapefruit League contests, but he's reportedly looked good in the field after his fractured right ankle previously compromised his range.

According to MLB.com's Ian Browne, "it's becoming clear" that Stephen Drew is over the fractured right ankle that limited him for the majority of last season.
Drew batted just .223/.309/.348 in his first season back from ankle surgery, but could be a prime bounce-back candidate if he can stay healthy. The Red Sox have already confirmed he'll be their Opening Day shortstop, so look for him to serve as a one-year stopgap before top prospect Xander Bogaerts is ready to take over.

Red Sox signed SS Stephen Drew to a one-year, $9.5 million contract.
The deal was agreed to earlier this month, but the announcement was delayed until after Christmas. Drew batted just .223/.309/.348 in his first season back from ankle surgery, but the Red Sox obviously feel better about the odds of a bounce-back than trusting rookie Jose Iglesias with the everyday job. With a solid lineup around him, he should make for a fine bounce-back candidate in fantasy leagues.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox have signed Stephen Drew to a one-year, $9.5 million contract.
He'll have a chance to make it an even $10 million if he hits his incentives. The Red Sox had publicly expressed confidence in Jose Iglesias as their starter at shortstop, but obviously they weren't prepared to commit to the all-glove, no-hit youngster. Drew will serve as a one-year stopgap before top prospect Xander Bogaerts is ready to take over. A one-year deal was probably the best course to take this winter for Drew, who will try to rebuild his value before hitting free agency again next offseason. He's a pretty decent rebound candidate.

ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports that the Red Sox remain interested in free agent Stephen Drew.
According to Stark, the Red Sox view Drew as a stopgap that would allow Xander Bogaerts to spend a full season at the Triple-A level. Coming off a down season, Drew is considering one-year offers in hopes of reestablishing his value. In addition to Boston, the Athletics, Cardinals and Yankees have been mentioned as possible suitors.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle spoke to an executive who believes that Stephen Drew will sign a one-year contract with the Athletics with a player option for 2014.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman confirms that the scenario has been discussed. Drew is coming off a season where he batted just .223/.309/.348 in 79 games between the Diamondbacks and Athletics, but his agent, Scott Boras, is doing his best to market him as the top shortstop on the market. Slusser wrote early Thursday that the A's could target Jhonny Peralta if they lose out on Drew and the Tigers land another shortstop.

ESPN's Buster Olney was told by a rival evaluator that there's "no way" Stephen Drew would sign with the Yankees to be a super-utility player or part-time third baseman.
Drew's name has come up as a possible insurance policy for the left side of the Yankees' infield, but he's said to be looking for a starting job. The Red Sox, Cardinals, Athletics and Tigers have also been mentioned as possible landing spots.
