Stephen Drew produced his first two hits as a member of the Athletics, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk as the A's were shutout by Alex Cobb and the Rays on Thursday. On a night where the A's could only muster four hits as a team, Drew was clearly the offensive standout. Though he's hitting just .194 with a pair of homers and 12 RBI through his first 144 at-bats, he's still an extremely talented player and should be able to turn things around over the last six weeks of the season.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Athletics will cover Stephen Drew's remaining salary. Drew is still owed around $3.3 million, including a $1.35 million buyout on his $10 million mutual option for 2013. It's not often that we see the Athletics pick up the tab on a contract, but he could be a nice upgrade at the shortstop position down the stretch. The Diamondbacks got minor league infielder Sean Jamieson in return, but it was mostly a salary dump situation.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman heard from an interested GM that Stephen Drew is likely staying with Arizona. The Diamondbacks shopped Drew around for about two weeks but never got an offer to their liking. The 29-year-old impending free agent shortstop is batting .193/.261/.253 with zero homers and seven RBI in 24 games this season. He'll be an interesting case on the open market this winter.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Diamondbacks are likely to trade Stephen Drew before Tuesday's trade deadline. This conflicts with a report from ESPN's Buster Olney on Saturday, which claimed that Drew was unlikely to be moved. While they haven't been blown away yet, it appears that the Diamondbacks are continuing to listen to offers for the 29-year-old impending free agent. He's hitting a paltry.193/.261/.253 in 24 games since returning from the DL.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Diamondbacks are not expected to move Stephen Drew prior to Tuesday's deadline. Teams have inquired about Drew, but it's clear that nothing is close, and Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers confirmed Tuesday that he hasn't been presented with a good offer. At this point, its unlikely that another club would value Drew more than he's worth to Arizona.

D'Backs GM Kevin Towers said Tuesday that he hasn't been presented with a good offer for Stephen Drew. Drew has posted a weak .217/.273/.283 batting line with zero home runs in 17 games this season after missing close to 12 months with a fractured ankle. The 29-year-old impending free agent could struggle to cash in on the open market this coming winter.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal lists the Pirates, Red Sox and Tigers as teams with interest in Stephen Drew. The D'Backs are unlikely to exercise their part of Drew's $10 million mutual option for 2013, and may want to get a return of young talent out of him before cutting ties. Willie Bloomquist and John McDonald would finish out the year sharing time at shortstop. Arizona is currently seven games back in the National League West standings.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Tigers are interested in Stephen Drew and Ryan Roberts of the Diamondbacks. The two clubs have discussed scenarios involving one or both players, but it's not clear how advanced talks are. The Tigers already have Jhonny Peralta at shortstop, but Rosenthal speculates that the D-Backs could ask for him as part of a trade, as his contract includes a $6 million club option for next year. Roberts could slide in at second base, where the Tigers have a clear need.

Still batting at the bottom of the order, Stephen Drew went 2-for-3 with a double against the Cubs on Friday. Drew is 4-for-10 with three RBI over his last three games. A strong weekend should get him moved back up in the Arizona lineup.

Stephen Drew singled in Arizona's lone run in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers. The Diamondbacks have decided to hit Drew at the bottom of the order until he starts hitting. He's been in the lineup for five of the team's seven games since coming off the DL and is 5-for-25 with two RBI to date.
