Newcomb (4-9) gave up three runs on four hits and four walks over five innings in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Mets. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
With just four games left for the Braves, Newcomb's 2017 is over. This was a rocky but promising rookie campaign for the 24-year-old Newcomb, who struggled with his control (5.1 BB/9) but also showed great strikeout ability (9.7 K/9) and kept the ball in the yard (0.9 HR/9). His 4.32 ERA and 1.57 WHIP won't set hearts racing, but Newcomb bears watching heading into next spring -- if he can get his pitches over the plate more consistently, the big lefty has the stuff to be a star.

Newcomb (4-8) held Philadelphia to two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts through 5.1 innings to earn the win Friday over the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb hasn't completed the sixth inning in his past six starts, but he is now 3-1 in those starts with a solid 3.86 ERA. He won't continue to pitch that well if he continues to walk five batters per nine innings, but if he can rein in his control, Newcomb has a chance to stick in Atlanta's rotation.

Newcomb (3-8) struck out eight and held the Mets to two runs on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts through 5.1 innings to earn the win Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
This marks the deepest Newcomb has lasted in a game since he completed six innings August 15 against the Rockies. For once, his wildness didn't get the best of him. Newcomb had walked a whopping 17 batters over just 25.2 innings over his last five starts. If he can limit the walks going forward, he has nasty enough stuff to be a successful starter, but the question will always be if he can throw the strikes when he needs them.

Newcomb allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five batters through five innings during Thursday's win over Miami. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie entered Thursday's start with a rock-solid 3.83 ERA and 10.2 K/9 through his past eight outings, so this was a solid follow up. Free passes continue to be the biggest hindrance to Newcomb's fantasy value, as he sports a 5.3 BB/9 for the campaign. Still, with a string of consistently strong outings, Newcomb's stock remains on the rise. He lines up to face Washington at Nationals Park in his next start.

Newcomb (2-8) took the loss Thursday against the Cubs after allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb settled down after surrendering a pair of first-inning tallies, but did allow a costly unearned run in the third on a bases-loaded walk following a Jace Peterson error. While the rookie southpaw has shown tantalizing upside with 83 strikeouts in 79.1 innings, he has also walked 47 batters for an unacceptable 5.33 BB/9. He'll hope for better luck Wednesday against the Rangers.

Newcomb (2-7) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five across 4.2 innings, but received no decision Saturday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb had allowed just one run going into the fifth inning before running into trouble, and although he left the contest with a 4-2 deficit, the offense came back in the bottom of the frame to take him off the hook for a potential loss. This was the first time in seven starts that he's allowed more than three earned runs and despite a 1.55 WHIP, he's maintained a decent 4.36 ERA. He'll make his next start Thursday against the Cubs.

Newcomb (2-7) worked around five hits and five walks through five scoreless innings during Sunday's win over Cincinnati. He recorded two strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb is beginning to settle into a nice groove, as he's now held his opponent to three runs or fewer in each of his past six outings. Considering his pedigree and strikeout upside (9.2 K/9), the 24-year-old lefty's fantasy value is trending up, especially in keeper/dynasty settings. Newcomb projects to make his next start against the Rockies at SunTrust Park.

Newcomb (1-7) allowed three runs on five hits and four walks over six innings in Tuesday's win over the Rockies. He struck out eight and did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Tasked with a difficult matchup at hitter-friendly Coors Field, Newcomb did well Tuesday to limit the Rockies to just three runs over six innings while giving his team the opportunity to pull out the victory. The young lefty allowed solo shots to Nolan Arenado, Mark Reynolds and Trevor Story but was able to piece together his second consecutive quality start. Newcomb has been a serviceable back-end starter for the Braves this season, but he's really only a viable fantasy option against weaker National League opponents. He's scheduled to take on the Reds on Sunday.

Newcomb (1-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
There are certainly some positives to take away from this one for Newcomb, who showed improved control after walking 22 over his previous five starts. The rookie also continued to excel at keeping the ball in the park, lowering his HR/9 to 0.92 by not allowing a homer in this one. Still, this was only his second quality start in the past seven outings and Newcomb's ERA remains an unimpressive 4.45. Things are unlikely to get any better in his next start Tuesday at Coors Field.

Newcomb (1-6) fell to the Dodgers on Thursday after allowing three runs on four hits with seven walks and seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
It took Newcomb 110 pitches to get 14 outs, and he actually did well to limit the damage as much as he did given the career-high seven walks. Control continues to be a major issue for the rookie left-hander, who has now issued a whopping 22 free passes in 25 innings over his past five starts. Newcomb has showcased excellent strikeout potential with a 9.40 K/9, but he can't be relied upon to work deep into games until he finds a better feel for the strike zone. He'll host the Phillies in his next start Wednesday.
