Newcomb (1-5) allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out four across five innings, but received no decision Saturday against the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb was staked to a two-run lead in the second inning and left the contest with a 3-1 lead before the bullpen blew the lead in the ninth inning, keeping him from picking up his second win of the year. This was the first time in five July starts in which he's allowed fewer than three runs, and with a 4.51 ERA along with a 1.46 WHIP, he's been a marginal fantasy option. He'll make his next start Thursday against the Dodgers.

Newcomb allowed three runs on three hits and five walks while striking out nine across six innings of work. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Although Newcomb did place 65 of his 104 pitches in the strike zone, he caused himself a lot of grief during the first few innings of his start by setting a new season high for walks in a game. That being said, the only dent the Dodgers were able to make off him was the three-run homer Austin Barnes clobbered in the fourth inning. The nine strikeouts are also a season high, so although he walked away with a no-decision, he continues to be a high-risk high-reward option in the Braves' rotation. He'll make his next appearance Saturday on the road against the Phillies.

Newcomb (1-5) coughed up five runs on eight hits -- including two home runs -- and three walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
After four straight quality starts to begin his big-league career Newcomb has crashed back to earth, posting an 11.37 ERA and 2.45 WHIP in three July outings. The lefty has been able to maintain a plus strikeout rate, but otherwise has done little to help fantasy rosters. He'll next take the mound Sunday on the road against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers.

Newcomb gave up four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven through four innings Sunday against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
This start was essentially what the pessimists were expecting from Newcomb this year against big-league hitters: plenty of strikeouts, too many walks. The free pass has plagued Newcomb at every minor-league stop, so it should not come as a surprise that he is struggling with walks and inefficiency in the majors. He has a 30:14 K:BB in 31.2 innings, with six walks coming in his last 7.1 innings.

Newcomb (1-3) got tagged for seven runs on 10 hits and two walks over 3.1 innings in Tuesday's 16-4 loss to the Astros. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
After four straight quality starts to begin his big-league career Newcomb was overdue for a rough outing, and the buzzsaw Houston offense was more than happy to oblige. The young lefty will get another tough test in his final start before the All-Star break Sunday on the road against the Nationals.

Newcomb (1-2) threw six scoreless innings against the Padres on Tuesday en route to his first career win. He struck out eight and walked one.
EDGE Analysis
With six scoreless frames in his first career road start, Newcomb now sits with a sparkling 1.48 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through four major-league outings (24.1 innings). The most impressive (and surprising) part of this has been his control -- Newcomb did have four walks in one start, but he's issued a total of four walks in his other three starts combined spanning 18.1 innings. He posted a 5.2 BB/9 with Triple-A Gwinnett prior to his promotion. Newcomb lines up to start Sunday at Oakland.

Newcomb allowed only one run on three hits and a walk over six innings but had to settle for a no-decision in Wednesday's extra-inning win over the Giants. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
He was held to just 80 pitches (59 strikes) after rain delayed the start of the game following his warmup, but the disruption of his routine did nothing to throw Newcomb off. He's now provided the Braves with quality starts in each of his first three big-league outings, although his 1.96 ERA overstates how effective he's been given his 13:7 K:BB in 18.1 innings. Expect the lefty to remain in the rotation even if Bartolo Colon (oblique/back) is able to return to action next week.

Newcomb is now scheduled to start Wednesday against the Giants, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb was originally scheduled to start Thursday's series finale, but he'll have his start pushed up a day to Wednesday after Bartolo Colon (oblique/back) was scratched. The 24-year-old, who has compiled a 2.19 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through two major-league starts (12.1 innings) this season, will look to further solidify himself in the Braves rotation as he toes the rubber for the third time this season.

Newcomb is in line to start Thursday's game against the Giants, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Bartolo Colon (oblique) is on track to come off the 10-day disabled list to start Wednesday, his return won't result in Newcomb losing his rotation spot after the rookie impressed in his first two big-league outings. Manager Brian Snitker will roll out a six-man rotation this week, but it's unknown if the Braves will carry forth with the experiment beyond that. If Newcomb continues to pitch well Thursday, he might not even have to worry much about losing his starting role if the Braves ultimately revert to a five-man setup, as 40-somethings Colon (7.78 ERA, 1.71 WHIP in 59 innings) and R.A. Dickey (5.35 ERA, 1.51 WHIP in 77.1 innings) may not have much more margin for error at this point in the season.

Newcomb will stay in the Braves rotation for at least one more turn, as the club plans to deploy a six-man rotation when Bartolo Colon (oblique) comes off the DL, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. "We'll start with [the six-man rotation] and then see where we go," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "I don't think we're committing to it for an extended period. But it's just kind of like you've got to start somewhere in that situation, and we'll deal with it as we go."
EDGE Analysis
The rookie left-hander has given Atlanta quality starts in each of his first two big-league outings, although a lack of run support has left Newcomb with two losses. Colon, meanwhile, had a 7.78 ERA and 1.71 WHIP when he landed on the DL and the 44-year-old could be reaching the end of his career. One of the two should lose their spot after next week, and given the Braves' place in the standings, they have little reason to give innings to Colon if the front office feels Newcomb is ready for a regular gig.
