Newcomb (4-1) allowed one hit and walked four while striking out six across six scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb once again battled his control, but it did not come back to haunt him Sunday as he managed to strand four baserunners. He has been successful despite allowing 4.2 BB/9 thanks to his ability to limit the long ball, as he is allowing just .6 HR/9. While metrics such as FIP and xFIP suggest Newcomb is pitching a bit over his head, they also don't suggest that there will be major regression in his performance in the future.

Newcomb (3-1) tossed six scoreless innings while earning the win over the Rays on Tuesday, allowing two hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb pounded the strike zone at a 63 percent clip and induced seven groundball outs while extending his scoreless innings streak to 14. He got just one run of support, but this excellent outing was enough to lift him to his second straight win. Newcomb has rounded into form despite the occasional bumpy outing and now owns a 2.88 ERA to go along with a 1.20 ERA for the season. He'll look to continue his recent dominance Sunday against the Marlins.

Newcomb (2-1) picked up the win over the Mets on Wednesday, scattering two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings while striking out eight.
EDGE Analysis
What looked to be a thrilling pitcher's duel between Newcomb and Jacob deGrom fell apart when deGrom left after four innings with a hyperextended elbow, but the Braves left-hander more than held up his end, throwing 70 of 97 pitches for strikes while generating 16 swinging strikes. Newcomb will take a 3.38 ERA into his next start Tuesday on the road against the Rays.

Newcomb, who had been scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Mets, will instead take the hill for the second contest of the series Wednesday, Grant McAuley of 92-9 The Game Atlanta reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Braves wanted to build in an extra off day this week for Julio Teheran, who is recovering from a back issue, so the team facilitated that by promoting top pitching prospect Mike Soroka from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Tuesday. The move will provide the secondary benefit of giving Newcomb five days' rest between starts after the lefty was tagged for four runs over six innings his last time out against Cincinnati. Newcomb's fantasy owners may not be as pleased, however, as the move back a day in the pitching schedule now denies the 24-year-old of a second start this week Sunday against the Giants at home.

Newcomb allowed four runs on five hits and three walks across six innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Reds. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb cruised through the first four innings of this one -- allowing just one hit and one walk -- before hitting a snag in the fifth inning. He allowed three of the first four batters he faced to reach base, two via consecutive four-pitch walks, before a Jose Peraza RBI groundout and a Joey Votto three-run homer tied the game up at four. The 24-year-old continues to struggle with command at times, but he still owns a respectable 4.23 ERA and 11.1 K/9 through five starts (27.2 innings). His next start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Mets.

Newcomb (1-1) didn't factor into the decision in Friday's extra-inning loss to the Mets, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks over six innings while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
It's the left-hander's second quality start in four outings. Newcomb continues to fight his command at times, but he threw 61 of 105 pitches for strikes in this one, and his 11.2 K/9 on the year highlights his upside should everything begin to click for the 24-year-old. He'll next take the mound Wednesday in Cincinnati.

Newcomb (1-1) came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 14-10 loss to the Cubs, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks over 5.1 innings while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander seemed well on his way to his second win of the year before Chicago hung nine runs on Atlanta's bullpen in the eighth inning. Newcomb threw 65 of 109 pitches for strikes, and while efficiency remains elusive for him, his 22:8 K:BB in 15.2 innings speaks to his upside. He'll next take the mound Thursday at home against the Mets.

Newcomb (1-1) struck out nine across six scoreless innings en route to a victory in Sunday's start against the Rockies, allowing five hits with no walks.
EDGE Analysis
In one of the most difficult matchups imaginable, Newcomb came through with one of the best outings of his young career. He threw 63 percent of his pitches for strikes, inducing 15 swinging strikes. The lefty also got seven groundball outs and didn't allow an extra-base hit. Newcomb looked shaky in his first start of the season, but this was an excellent bounce-back performance ahead of next weekend's scheduled start against the Cubs.

Newcomb (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits and four walks across 4.1 innings while taking a loss in Monday's start against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
The visitors reached Newcomb early in this one, plating five runs in the first two innings, including a three-run home run from Bryce Harper. Newcomb threw 63 percent of his pitches for strikes, but he was unable to get timely outs and walked four batters for the eighth time in 20 career starts. All things considered, fantasy owners should temper expectations for his next start on the road against the Rockies.

Newcomb will start the fourth game of the season for the Braves on Monday as they begin a three-game home series against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
The big left-hander could be poised for a breakout 2018. After posting a 9.7 K/9 and ghastly 5.1 BB/9 in 19 big-league starts last season, Newcomb set the hearts of fantasy general managers a-fluttering this spring when he flashed improved control, putting together a 15:5 K:BB in 15.1 innings. If the 24-year-old can find the plate more often this year, his otherwise impressive arsenal should allow him to finish the season at the front of the Braves' rotation rather than at the back of it.
