Newcomb will start Game 3 of the NLDS on Sunday against the Dodgers.

EDGE Analysis

As reported earlier, the Braves will start with Newcomb after previously planning to go with Kevin Gausman. Atlanta will be in an all hands on deck situation down 2-0 in the series, so it's possible that the lefty Newcomb will get just one turn through the order before the Braves bring in a righty, possibly Gausman.

Newcomb could start Sunday against the Dodgers, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Braves are apparently leaning towards Newcomb despite previously announcing Kevin Gausman as the starter. The lefty finished the season with a 3.90 ERA after 30 starts and one relief appearance. He allowed at least five runs in four of his final eight starts.

Newcomb didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the Mets, allowing only one hit and four walks over five scoreless innings while striking out eight.

EDGE Analysis

He and Jacob deGrom were locked in a pitcher's duel for five innings, but Newcomb ran up his pitch count and exited after 88 offerings (53 strikes). The southpaw will head into the playoffs with a 3.90 ERA and 159:80 K:BB in 163.1 innings.

Newcomb will start Wednesday against the Mets, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb's previous start Saturday was skipped, but he won't end up being removed from the rotation entirely. The Braves may be going with a six-man rotation to close out the season, as Touki Toussaint remains in the rotation to start Tuesday. The timing of Newcomb's start means he'll likely appear just once more this season.

Newcomb will have his next start skipped, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb was originally scheduled to start Saturday against the Phillies, but with an off day Thursday, the Braves opted to skip the southpaw's turn in the rotation and give the ball to Mike Foltynewicz on regular rest. Anibal Sanchez is set to start Sunday's series finale, while it's unclear when -- or if -- Newcomb will get the ball again. The 25-year-old has scuffled to a 7.79 ERA and 1.73 WHIP over his last four starts, so the Braves may opt to finish out the season with Touki Toussaint as their fifth starter.

Newcomb (12-9) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks across three innings to take the loss Sunday against the Naionals. He struck out three.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb allowed a two-run home run to Bryce Harper as part of a three-run first inning and served up another two-run shot to Anthony Rendon in the third. He induced just four swinging strikes while throwing first-pitch strikes to 7 of 17 hitters and recording two groundball outs. Newcomb was coming off a quality start in his previous outing, but overall he's failed to complete five innings in three of his previous four while taking a loss in each of those. He's not currently scheduled to start again during the regular season but could appear as a long relief man if the club decides to give him some additional work before the playoffs begin.

Newcomb (12-8) allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight over six innings in a win over the Giants on Monday. He did not issue a walk.

EDGE Analysis

The lefty's control was much better than it was last week when he walked five over 4.1 innings against Boston. His inconsistency in finding the strike zone continues to hold Newcomb back, but he's shown improvement in that regard this season (5.1 BB/9 in 2017) and there's hope that the 25-year-old can take another step forward with his control in 2019. He lines up for three more regular-season starts (vs. STL, vs. PHI, @PHI).

Newcomb (11-8) allowed three runs on four hits and five walks across 4.1 innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox. He struck out two.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb threw an unnerving 47 percent of his pitches for strikes as he tied his season high in walks. He made it virtually unscathed into the fifth inning, but he loaded the bases, walked in a run and then watched from the dugout as the bullpen allowed two inherited runners to cross. Newcomb has struggled mightily in SunTrust Park of late, allowing a whopping 21 earned runs over 17.2 innings combined in his last four starts at home. He'll look to bounce back in his next start on the road against the Diamondbacks.

Newcomb (11-7) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven against the Rays.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb was hit hard, allowing a pair of home runs and a double en route to giving up at least eight hits for the third time this year -- all of which have come in the last four outings. The southpaw has been struggling mightily of late, as he's been rocked for an 8.48 ERA over his last four starts to push his mark on the season up over a half run to 3.85. He'll draw a difficult matchup in his next attempt to bounce back, taking on the Red Sox at home Monday.

Newcomb (11-6) allowed two hits while walking three and striking out eight across six scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

Newcomb took advantage of the weak Marlins lineup to record his first scoreless start since June 16. He also received an extra day of rest between starts, which may have aided him in bouncing back from consecutive subpar outings during which he surrendered 12 earned runs across 9.1 innings. While he got good results in Thursday's start, Newcomb did struggle with efficiency, requiring 111 pitches to retire 18 batters with only 64 of his 111 pitches going for strikes.
