Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the asking prices for free agent starters Roy Oswalt, Hiroki Kuroda and Edwin Jackson "have come down significantly." Olney says Oswalt is now looking for $8 million and Kuroda is ready to settle for a $10-11 million pact. He doesn't list the new asking price for Jackson, who had reportedly been looking for $15 million per season on a multi-year deal. It's inevitable (especially in Jackson's case) that prices start to drop at this time of the year, as teams want to lock players in before spring training. Oswalt dealt with back issues in 2011 but would be a nice gamble on an $8 million deal.

According to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers have "made inquiries" on Roy Oswalt. Oswalt is still struggling to draw interest despite telling teams that he would be willing to accept a one-year deal. The 34-year-old right-hander posted a 3.69 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 23 starts last season for Philadelphia while fighting back issues. It's not exactly clear how he would fit into the Rangers' plans for the 2012 campaign.

According to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, a Cardinals' source downplayed the club's interest in Roy Oswalt as a starter. Strauss later opined that it could make sense to add Oswalt on a one-year deal as a long reliever with heavy incentives if he is moved to the starting rotation. The 34-year-old right-hander would reportedly love to pitch in St. Louis, but it's probably an unrealistic scenario. He has just 14 career relief appearances (eight of them during his rookie season in 2001) and pitching out of the bullpen might not be the best idea for his back condition. Unless the Cardinals can shed Jake Westbrook or Kyle Lohse (both of whom have no-trade clauses), Oswalt will likely find a better situation elsewhere.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, free agent Roy Oswalt is "being eyed" by the Cardinals. Cafardo hears that Oswalt "would love to pitch" in St. Louis, but there's no indication of how serious talks are between the two parties. The veteran right-hander posted a 3.69 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 23 starts last season for Philadelphia while fighting back issues. He's said to be open to a one-year deal, and is also drawing interest from the Yankees and Red Sox, among others.

A source told ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand that the Yankees do not have interest in Roy Oswalt. The Yankees' offseason of silence continues. Oswalt has informed teams that he is willing to sign a one-year contract to revitalize his career, and is likely to draw offers from several suitors. The 34-year-old posted a 3.69 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 6.0 K/9 over 23 starts in 2011 for Philly.

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, Roy Oswalt has informed teams that he only requires a one-year deal. The veteran right-hander began the offseason in search of a three-year contract, but he didn't find much interest. Now, with news that his asking price has been lowered significantly, that interest is picking up in a major way. Oswalt is plagued by chronic back problems but he still managed to post a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts this past year with Philly. The Nationals, Yankees, Red Sox and Royals are known to be considering him.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox are still interested in free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt. The market for Oswalt has seemed to be moving rather slowly, but he's arguably the second-best starter available after Yu Darvish. The 34-year-old wants a three-year deal and is being courted by the Nationals, Yankees and Royals. Oswalt posted a 3.69 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and career-low 6.0 K/9 rate in 2011 but had a sub-3.00 ERA in 2010.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that the Nationals are now targeting free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt. The Nats really wanted Mark Buehrle, but they were outbid by the Marlins and are now moving on to Plan B. Oswalt is said to be looking for a three-year deal, but it's possible he might have to wind up settling for just two. The Red Sox, Yankees and Royals have also expressed previous interest in the right-hander.

Williams Ladson of MLB.com reports that Roy Oswalt is looking for a three-year contract. Some team might be willing to go that far, but it would be a risk. Oswalt is coming off arguably the worst season of his career, is 34 and has a history of back issues. Teams that fail in their quest to land C.J. Wilson or Mark Buehrle might look to Oswalt as a consolation prize.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies are no longer in the running for free agent starter Roy Oswalt. Renck reported last month that the Rockies were "aggressive" in their pursuit of Oswalt, but now admits that the veteran was "a longshot given the interest by other clubs." Instead they've re-focused their attention to lesser-heralded veterans Kevin Millwood and Jeff Francis.
