Byrd is out of the lineup Saturday, Fox Sports Ohio's Joe Reedy reports.
This is a very rare day off for Byrd, who is in the midst of a week-long slump. He has two hits in his last six games and his average is now just barely over the Mendoza Line (.201). Skip Schumaker will get the start in left field and hit second Saturday against the Indians.

Byrd went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's win over the Giants.
After hitting home run number seven on Wednesday, Byrd followed that up with home run number eight on Thursday. His power numbers have been good so far in Cincinnati despite a .226 batting average. He's never been a high average guy, but hitting at Great American Ball Park is certainly going to help the home run tally.

Byrd went 1-for-3 with his seventh homer and a walk in Wednesday's win over the Braves.
Byrd went on an early-May tear, collecting two hits in five consecutive games and homering in four of those contests, but he proceeded to go stone-cold thereafter, going 0-for-10 in the four games between then and Wednesday. He's been drawing a ton of walks lately, though -- 10 in his last 10 games -- pointing to a generally improved approach at the plate following a .169/.188/.273 month of April.

Byrd will bat second Tuesday against the Pirates, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Zack Cozart will sit due to a finger injury, opening the door for Byrd to step into the two-hole against lefty Jeff Locke. It's a minuscule sample, but Byrd is 3-for-7 with a homer in his career against Locke. Byrd is batting just .181/.216/.313 through 23 games (88 PA) this season.

Byrd is not in the lineup Sunday against the Braves, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Byrd had made 11 straight starts in left field for the Reds, so it was likely time for the 37-year-old veteran to get a regular day off. Despite logging his third home run in Saturday's matchup, the right-hander has posted just a .529 OPS through his first 83 at-bats of 2015.

Byrd hit his second homer of the season in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.
Both of Byrd's homers have come against the Brewers' Kyle Lohse. Against everyone else he has just two extra-base hits this month, somehow providing the Reds even less offense from left field than they got last season. That's likely to change, but one of the reasons why they've hovered around .500.

Byrd provided the whole of the Reds' scoring Thursday in a loss to Milwaukee, going 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.
It was his first homer of the year, as Byrd's been mired in a deep season-opening slump. Even after Thursday, he's hitting a miserable .125 and has struck out 18 times in 55 at-bats without drawing a walk.

Byrd is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Byrd will be replaced by Skip Schumaker after going 1-for-8 with three strikeouts over the first two games of the series, dropping his season line to a pathetic .143/.143/.167. Schumaker doesn't represent a viable everyday alternative to Byrd, but Brennan Boesch, who has shown a little more pop in his bat over his career, could push for further at-bats if Byrd fails to break out of his slump sooner or later.

Byrd went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.
The Reds had hoped that they would get some approximation of what Byrd has done the last two seasons, but so far he's been awful, hitting only .132/.132/.158. So far he's been no improvement over the man he replaced, Ryan Ludwick.

Byrd is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.
Byrd had started the first five games of the season for manager Bryan Price, but will take a seat Sunday with hard-throwing right-hander Carlos Martinez on the bump for the Cardinals. Brennan Boesch will draw the start in left field in Byrd's stead, but look for the veteran to return to the lineup when the Reds open a three-game series against the Cubs on Monday.
