Byrd is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Byrd will be replaced by Skip Schumaker after going 1-for-8 with three strikeouts over the first two games of the series, dropping his season line to a pathetic .143/.143/.167. Schumaker doesn't represent a viable everyday alternative to Byrd, but Brennan Boesch, who has shown a little more pop in his bat over his career, could push for further at-bats if Byrd fails to break out of his slump sooner or later.
