The Yankees will decide on Sunday whether Mark Teixeira (lat) will require a trip to the disabled list. Teixeira is scheduled to do stretching and running on the field before Saturday's game, then will do tee and toss on Sunday before a determination is made. He has been sidelined since Sunday with a lower left lat strain.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Friday that he doesn't expect Mark Teixeira (lat) to return to the lineup until Monday at the earliest. That means the Yankees will play with a short bench for the remainder of the weekend rather than opting to put Teixeira on the disabled list. He has been sidelined since Sunday due to a lower left lat strain.

Mark Teixeira (lat) could swing a bat as soon as Friday. Teixeira hasn't played since Sunday due to a lower left lat strain but said Friday that he's feeling much better and looks like he'll avoid the disabled list. "I hope to be back soon," he said. The Yankees' first baseman is batting .231/.330/.443 with 17 homers and 48 RBI over 76 games this season.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that a decision on whether Mark Teixeira (lat) will be placed on the disabled list will likely come Friday. "It's just seeing how he feels after three or four days," Girardi said. "Then we'll decide if we think it's going to be the near future that he would play or we're going to need the 15-day [disabled list]. If it's going to be 12, 13, 14 days, it probably makes sense to get a player here." Girardi added that it's unlikely Teixeira will play Friday, but "you want to feel that there's progress and that he feels better to start doing some stuff." Teixeira hasn't played since Sunday due to a lower left lat strain.

Mark Teixeira will be sidelined for the next 3-4 days because of a mild lower lat strain. The Yankees are optimistic that the first baseman will not require a disabled list stint. Teixeira has tallied 17 home runs and 48 RBI in 76 games this season but has struggled to stay healthy for extended periods.

Mark Teixeira is not in the Yankees' lineup Wednesday a day after having his left knee drained. Teixeira has evidently been playing through some soreness for a few days. The good news is that he's expected to return to the lineup Thursday. Kelly Johnson is handling first base Wednesday.
