Cessa was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
After surrendering two runs in 3.1 innings of relief in Monday's game, the Yankees will opt to replace him with a fresh arm. Chasen Shreve was recalled to take his place in the bullpen as a corresponding move. Cessa should be back up later this season, but unless he is granted a spot start, he will likely be used in low-leverage spots out of the bullpen.

Cessa was recalled by the Yankees from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
With the Yankees' bullpen starting to get a little worn down, Cessa should be able to some valuable depth. The 25-year-old has gotten off to a nice start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, posting a 1.54 ERA in 23.1 innings thus far.

Cessa is still in the discussion for the Yankees' No. 5 rotation spot, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cessa will work at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, competing with teammate Jordan Montgomery and Double-A Trenton occupant Chad Green. The Yankees aren't expected to use a fifth starter until April 16, so manager Joe Girardi will take that extra time to decide.

Cessa was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and reassigned to minor league camp on Friday, Brendan Kuty of The Star-Ledger reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander had an outside shot at breaking camp in the rotation but didn't make the cut after posting a 6.52 ERA. Cessa may wind up an option later on in the 2017 season, though, considering the likely volatility of the back end of the Bombers' starting quintet.

Cessa gave up four runs in 1.2 innings of work Thursday, allowing six hits while striking out two and walking one.
EDGE Analysis
It was his first appearance in 12 days and his worst outing of spring so far, as the 24-year-old had only conceded two runs in his previous six innings before missing time with an illness. Cessa is battling for one of the final two spots in the Yankees' rotation, and although this outing didn't help, he'll have plenty of chances to prove himself the rest of spring.

Cessa had a fever Thursday night and has been scratched from his Grapefruit League start Friday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Cessa instead will work a simulated game Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander proved much better as a starting pitcher last year (4.01 ERA) than as a reliever (5.30) and is battling for one of the final two spots of the Bombers' rotation. His fine spring so far (two earned runs on five hits and one walk, with five strikeouts and one walk in six innings) will keep him in the discussion likely until the final days, and when this illness subsides, Cessa will resume work.

Cessa is being considered for one of the final spots in the starting rotation, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Heading into spring training, the top three spots in the Yankees' rotation appear to be sorted out, but behind that there's an open competition for the back-end spots. Cessa worked out of both the bullpen and the rotation in the Bronx last season, working to a 4.35 ERA (5.57 FIP) over 70.1 innings in the majors but he had much more success in the minors to the tune of a 3.03 ERA and 8.1 K/9 in 15 appearances (14 starts) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The righty will turn 25 years old in the first month of the season, so if he does lose out on a rotation spot, the Yankees might elect to send Cessa back down to the minors to continue developing him as a starter going forward.

Cessa (4-4) gave up four runs on five hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings in Sunday's loss to the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old had his moments after being inserted into the Yankees' rotation, but he finishes the season with a 4.35 ERA, 46:14 K:BB and distressing 2.0 HR/9 in 70.1 innings. Cessa will need to find a way to keep more balls in the park if he's going to find a place on the team's staff in 2017.

Cessa allowed two runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts over six innings in Tuesday's no-decision against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
This was Cessa's first start without giving up a homer in his last seven tries, so it's not surprising that he's still winless since Aug. 26. The rookie's upside is capped by the combination of his poor K/9 (5.57) and astronomical HR/9 (2.09). He'll get one more look in the season finale Sunday against Baltimore.

Cessa (4-3) took the loss Thursday despite holding the Rays to just two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked a pair.
EDGE Analysis
That's now three straight losses for Cessa, although this one was of the hard-luck variety, as the Yanks got shut out. He's been painfully prone to the long ball recently, as the rookie gave up yet another homer Thursday -- that makes 10 in his last six starts. Cessa hasn't shown fantasy owners much, and with only tough starts against Boston and Baltimore left on the docket, fantasy owners are likely best served looking for other options in the season's final days.
