Cessa will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Tuesday's game against the Twins, Pete Caldera of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Yankees have yet to settle on a spot starter for the series opener Monday, but it looks like the club has officially settled on Cessa for Tuesday, with Jordan Montgomery on tap to handle the final contest of the three-game set in Minnesota. Cessa floundered in his three starts with the big club earlier this season, but if he impresses Tuesday, he could earn himself a more permanent home in the Yankees' rotation. The Yankees are expected to explore adding another starter via trade before the deadline, but until that happens, they'll lean on their internal options to fill the void in the rotation left by the season-ending elbow injury to Michael Pineda.

Cessa is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start one game of the Yankees' series next week with the Twins in Minnesota, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
With the Yankees coming out of the All-Star break with six games in five days, Cessa had initially been viewed as a candidate to make a spot start in one game of the team's doubleheader with the Red Sox on Sunday, but Bryan Mitchell will instead be called up -- likely as New York's 26th man -- to start Game 1, while Masahiro Tanaka handles the nightcap. It appears Cessa rather than Mitchell could be in store for a more permanent spot in the rotation, however, after it was revealed Friday that Michael Pineda was dealing with a partially torn right UCL that could require season-ending Tommy John surgery. With Pineda in line for a trip to the 10-day disabled list at the very least, Cessa seems poised to get the first crack at settling in as the Yankees' fifth starter, but he may not have a long leash after previously submitting a 5.93 ERA over 13.2 innings in his other three starts with the big club this season. If Cessa falters again in his next outing against the Twins -- which will likely come Monday or Tuesday -- the Yankees could be inclined to give prospect Chance Adams, who has dominated over 17 starts between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A in 2017, his first trial in the big-league rotation.

Cessa was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Cessa was relegated to the bullpen after making three starts in the Yankee rotation, where he had posted an unappealing 5.93 ERA over three consecutive losses. Forthwith, the team likely doesn't feel the need for a long-inning reliever at the moment, so they'll bring Jonathan Holder back up to supplement one of the better bullpens in the majors (3.75 combined ERA). Cessa, however, has demonstrated his potential to pitch on a major-league level, so expect the right-hander to be in line for a spot start down the road if needed.

Cessa is expected to move back to the bullpen this week after CC Sabathia (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his start Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
During his three-start run with the Yankees, Cessa did little to convince manager Joe Girardi that he should expand the rotation to six pitchers, as he failed to reach the sixth inning in any outing and delivered a 5.93 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over that stretch. With the Yankees shipping out Bryan Mitchell to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to accommodate Sabathia's return to the active roster, Cessa will likely assume Mitchell's role as the club's long man out of the bullpen, but it might not be long before the 24-year-old heads back to Triple-A to continue his development as a starter.

Cessa (0-3) allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in 4.2 innings during. Thursday's loss to the White Sox. He struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
Aside from an eight-strikeout performance against the Rangers -- in which he still conceded three runs in five innings -- Cessa hasn't impressed much in three spot starts with the Yankees this season. He's compiled a 5.93 ERA and 13:6 K:BB through 13.2 innings of work while filling in for the injured CC Sabathia (hamstring). However, with Sabathia nearing a return from the disabled list, Thursday may have been Cessa's last start for the foreseeable future.

Cessa (0-2) gave up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight over five innings in Saturday's loss to Texas.
EDGE Analysis
While Cessa did give up another homer -- he's allowed a home run in all three appearances with the big-league club this season -- it was easily his best outing of the season so far. He is expected to stick in the rotation until CC Sabathia (hamstring) returns, and Cessa lines up to face the lowly White Sox his next time out, but his track record at Triple-A should give mixed-league owners pause.

Cessa will remain in the rotation with CC Sabathia on the DL, John Healy of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cessa already made one start last time through the rotation, allowing four runs over four innings against Oakland and is slated to take the mound again Saturday against the Rangers. With Sabathia projected to miss over six weeks with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, there was a possibility the Yankees would look for a more long-term fix in the rotation, but it now appears as though the spot is Cessa's to lose for the duration of Sabathia's injury.

Cessa (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts over four innings in a loss Sunday to the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Cessa was undone by a big third inning, which included a two-run double from Chad Pinder and a two-run homer from Khris Davis. He was far from lights out over his time at Triple-A (4.15 ERA, 1.35 WHIP), and it shouldn't be surprising that major league hitters were able to touch him up. Expect Cessa to be demoted once CC Sabathia (hamstring) is ready to return.

Cessa will start Sunday's game against Jharel Cotton and the A's, Leonardo Coelho of Sportsnet 960 reports.
EDGE Analysis
He posted a 4.15 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 47:22 K:BB in 65 innings at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, and boasts a 4.01 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 35 strikeouts in 51.2 innings over nine career starts in the big leagues. CC Sabathia is on the 10-day DL with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and should reclaim his rotation spot once healthy, so Cessa's time in the big-league rotation is likely to be limited.

Cessa was recalled by the Yankees on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
According to Erik Boland of Newsday, Cessa is an option to make a spot start over the weekend in place of the injured C.C. Sabathia, who is on the disabled list with a hamstring strain. Cessa has enjoyed moderate success down at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season with a 4.15 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 65.0 innings. Look for further confirmation regarding his potential start later in the week, but in any case, it's unclear whether Cessa would stick in the rotation beyond this weekend.
