Cessa (ribs) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
This means the end of Cessa's 2017 campaign, as he last pitched on Aug. 14. It is unclear how severe the ribcage injury is. He posted a 4.75 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 36 innings with the Yankees this year, splitting time between the rotation and the bullpen.

Cessa was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a ribcage injury.
EDGE Analysis
While the injury wasn't thought to be anything serious at first, Tuesday's MRI results proved otherwise, and Cessa will in fact need a stint on the disabled list to get back to full strength. The Yankees haven't specified the severity of his ailment at this point, so he remains without a firm timetable for return, though he'll be eligible for activation Aug. 24. Caleb Smith was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.

Cessa exited during the fifth inning of Monday night's game with an upper back injury, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cessa will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, but the Yankees do not believe the injury to be serious. The 25-year-old allowed two runs on five hits over 4.1 innings prior to exiting, with the only real trouble coming in the third as he gave up solo home runs to Curtis Granderson and Yoenis Cespedes. It was nothing more than a spot start for Cessa, with C.C. Sabathia expected to return this weekend.

Cessa was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will start Monday's game against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Cessa will assume the active roster spot of long reliever Caleb Smith, who was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. Like Smith, Cessa will more than likely be in store for a brief stay with the big club, as he's only making a spot start in place of CC Sabathia (knee), who is expected to be cleared to make his next turn in the rotation Saturday against the Red Sox once he completes another bullpen session. Though Cessa will draw a favorable matchup against the non-contending Mets, he can't be used with much confidence as a streaming option after supplying a 4.83 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over nine appearances (four starts) with the Yankees earlier this season.

Cessa will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Monday's game against the Mets, Anthony Rieber of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
There was some thought that Caleb Smith, who was recalled from Triple-A prior to Sunday's game against the Red Sox to offer an option in long relief if needed, would pick up the spot start Monday, but the Yankees will instead turn to Cessa to fill the opening in the rotation created by the recent moves of Masahiro Tanaka (shoulder) and CC Sabathia (knee) to the disabled list. Neither injured pitcher seems at risk of missing much longer than the 10-day minimum, but Cessa could still be in store for a two-start week, with a second turn likely to come Saturday against the Red Sox if both Tanaka and Sabathia remain unavailable. Cessa hasn't provided much evidence that he'll make for a reliable streaming option, however, after turning in a 6.23 ERA and 15:10 K:BB over 17.1 innings in his previous four starts with the Yankees this season.

Cessa is an option to take Masahiro Tanaka's spot in the starting rotation, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cessa was sent down to Triple-A after posting a 4.83 ERA over nine outings (four starts) with the Yankees, but could provide the most feasible option to take the mound Monday against the Mets. The right-hander struggled tremendously in his four starting chances this season, going 0-3 with a 6.23 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP, so he would likely only fill in for a couple starts before being replaced. Reliever Bryan Mitchell is the other option to take over for Tanaka.

Cessa was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball Sunday, but prior to that, he had allowed three runs in each of his last two appearances. With Cessa likely unavailable for the next few days, the Yankees opted to send him back to the minors. No corresponding move has been made, but his roster will presumably be filled when Jaime Garcia joins the team Monday.

Cessa will be replaced by Caleb Smith for Sunday's start against the Mariners, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
There hasn't been any indication that this move is anything injury-related, so it appears the Yankees just had a change of heart and would rather have the left-handed Smith start Sunday's series finale. Cessa was 0-3 with a 6.23 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through four starts in the majors this year, so it looks like he may be either heading back to the bullpen or down to the minors rather than sticking in the rotation in the wake of Michael Pineda's season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Cessa lasted just 3.2 innings Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three in a 6-3 win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
He threw only 41 of 76 pitches for strikes and was on the hook for the loss when he hit the showers, but a five-run fifth by the Yankees allowed Cessa to escape with a no-decision. The 25-year-old's inability to pitch deep into his starts might have been part of the impetus behind Tuesday's trade for David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle, but Cessa will need to deliver better efforts than this if he wants to keep his rotation spot. He'll next take the mound Sunday in Seattle.

Cessa was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in advance of Tuesday's start against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
If Cessa can hold his own this time around, he could stick in the big-league rotation for a stretch, with Michael Pineda out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. However, it would seem more likely that the Yankees would upgrade the fifth starter spot either internally (Chance Adams is a popular candidate) or via a trade at the deadline. Cessa posted a 5.93 ERA in 13.2 innings as a starter in the big-league rotation earlier this season.
