Kevin Gausman picked up his fifth win of the season, allowing three runs in seven frames against the Angels as the Orioles hung on by a 4-3 margin on Wednesday. Gausman was able to finish the seventh inning for only the second time in 10 starts this season. He brought a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but lost it after walking the bases loaded with two outs, allowing a two-run single and an RBI double. Overall, Gausman surrendered three hits, walked three, and struck out two. The 23-year-old has been solid out of the rotation, holding a 3.70 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and a 37/21 K/BB ratio. He'll take the hill on Monday in Washington against the Nationals as the two squads will make up July 8's postponed game.

The O's still haven't committed to giving him the ball every five days, but with the kid gloves off Gausman should be more involved in the next two months. The five innings constituted the entirety of the ballgame as the storms wouldn't let up enough to allow for a completion. Gausman punched out two without walking a batter on the night. The only damage against him came on a leadoff homer from Brett Gardner. He now owns a 4-2 record, 3.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 26/13 K/BB ratio over 38 1/3 innings with the Orioles on the season.

Orioles recalled RHP Kevin Gausman from Triple-A Norfolk. Gausman will start either on Saturday (less likely) or Sunday (more likely) against the Yankees in place of the injured Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle). Jimenez is eligible to return from the DL not long after the All-Star break, but Gausman should get at least one additional outing.

He's been more good than bad after a clunker his first time out on May 14, and Sunday's start may earn him an extended look with the O's this time. That start could come this weekend against the Yankees.
