Gausman (shoulder) will pitch batting practice for Baltimore before its game at Miami on Saturday, the Associated Press reports. He was also expected to throw a simulated game sometime later this month, so once that happens we could have a clearer picture of what the next step will be. Gausman will no doubt be on an innings limit when he does come back so the Orioles may opt to bring him back without a using some of those innings on a rehab assignment.

Gausman (shoulder) could pitch a simulated game in about 10 days, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. Gausman will first attempt to test out his ailing shoulder through flat-ground and bullpen sessions this week, and if all goes well, the Orioles could send him to extended spring training to face hitters. The 24-year-old isn't likely to rejoin the Orioles until early or mid-June at the soonest.

An MRI on Gausman's shoulder came back clean, and he plans to stay in Baltimore for now, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports. Gausman will continue to rest his shoulder, as he has only been on the disabled list for a few days. With the MRI coming back clean, he appears to just be dealing with tendinitis.

Gausman (shoulder) will visit a specialist Monday and undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine what is causing his shoulder issues, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports. The fact that Gausman will require a visit to a specialist is never a good sign, as it could result in a procedure. It's unclear exactly what he's suffering from at this point other than a shoulder issue, but the visit and MRI should provide more information on his situation.

Gausman has been placed on the DL with right shoulder tendinitis, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports. While the significance of the move cannot be denied, the Orioles are labeling the DL stint as a precaution. Kubatko said Gausman could be ready to pitch with Triple-A Norfolk before his DL period is up. It has already been a really frustrating year for those who drafted the high-upside righty, as he has been used as a reliever rather than a starter. T.J. McFarland is expected to be added to the roster to replace Gausman.

Gausman got the win despite giving up two earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out four in 2.1 innings of relief Tuesday against the Rays. He came in to relieve Wei-Yin Chen in the fifth and pitched multiple innings, which is his designed role to start the season for the Orioles. Even though Gausman gave up two earned runs, he was dominant minus a two-run homer to Kevin Kiermaier. The 24-year-old righty was painting the corners at 97-98 mph down in the zone Tuesday. Don't expect an absurdly low ERA or WHIP, but Gausman will be good for plenty of strikeouts and this won't be the last win he vultures when O's pitchers don't make it deep into a game.

Gausman will begin the 2015 season working out of the bullpen, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports. Gausman was beat out by Ubaldo Jimenez for the Orioles' fifth starter job, but will remain with the team in what will likely be a long relief role. Look for Baltimore to turn back to the right-hander if a need for a spot start arises at any point.

Gausman appears headed to the bullpen to begin the season, MASN Sports reports. It is difficult to gauge Gausman because he has thrown just four innings in the Grapefruit League after allowing two runs Thursday. He has thrown several more times in minor league camp. The Orioles want to control his innings, and beginning the season in the bullpen is one way to do that. He could replace any starter for injury or non-performance and there is a good chance he finds a way to get starts as the season progresses. It is important to note there is not final word on the rotation, but for now all signs point toward the bullpen for Gausman.

Gausman has thrown just three innings in the Grapefruit League this spring, but he has thrown in several minor league games and remains a candidate for the fifth spot in the rotation, MASN Sports. The Orioles have given Gausman innings in the minors, but Ubaldo Jimenez has gotten 16 innings in Grapefruit League games through Tuesday. Gausman last threw Friday, so he should be making another appearance in the next day or two and it could come in the Grapefruit League.

Gausman threw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one in Wednesday's spring training game against the Tigers. Meanwhile, the Orioles said they instructed Gausman not to throw bullpen sessions in the offseason, according to MASN Sports. "First time a guy pitches into October in his life," manager Buck Showalter said. "Just taking a lot precautions with a lot of guys, not just Gausman, to kind of save our bullets as much as possible." The Orioles took it easy on Gausman in the offseason, which is why he did not go two innings. Ubaldo Jimenez imploded one day earlier, but it is way to early to decry one of the rotation spots as belonging to Gausman. It is very possible that Gausman will see an innings limit this season, probably short of 200 innings pitched considering he has not thrown 160 innings in a season in his professional career.
