It sounds like the Indians are lining up Tomlin to be ready to pitch Game 2 of the ALDS on normal rest in case Corey Kluber (groin) isn't ready to take the ball. This doesn't affect his fantasy value, as Tomlin was either going to start Friday or Sunday against the Royals.

The Indians have shaken up their rotation over the final week after clinching the division Monday. Tomlin's next start could hinge on whether Corey Kluber (groin) will be able to start Game 1 of the ALDS. If Kluber can't go, Trevor Bauer would start Game 1 and Tomlin would start Game 2, meaning he would start Sunday's season finale to line up for that postseason start on normal rest.

Tomlin went 6.2 innings against the Royals on Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks, taking a no-decision. He struck out three.

EDGE Analysis

Tomlin was removed after just 84 pitches Tuesday in his best start since July. He received a no-decision as the Indians managed just one run until the bottom of the ninth, when Brandon Guyer hit a pinch hit, walkoff single to win the game 2-1. Tomlin has now rebounded from a brutal August where he posted an astronomical 11.48 ERA, allowing just one run in each of the his two September starts. His ERA is now 4.61 on the year.

Tomlin (12-8) lasted only the minimum five innings for a win and struck out a mere two hitters, but gave up just one run on four hits without a walk against the White Sox on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

This was Tomlin's first start of September, as his only other appearance of the month was a one-inning relief appearance nine days prior. There's good reason for that: the brutal 34 runs he'd given up over a six-start span before getting temporarily bumped from the rotation. Before that slump, he was actually carrying an ERA in the mid-threes, so if Tomlin's turned things around, he could offer a bit of fantasy value down the stretch, although his contact- and homer-prone ways do him no favors.

Tomlin will be skipped his next time through the rotation, Nick Camino of Newsradio WTAM 1100 reports.

EDGE Analysis

Tomlin was one of the biggest surprise performers in the first half, holding a 3.21 ERA through July 1. But a harsh correction in a horrific August (11.48 ERA in 26.1 innings) has led to at least a temporary breather from the rotation. Cleveland has not yet named a replacement but carries several logical in-house options, including long reliever Mike Clevinger and Triple-A Columbus starters Cody Anderson and T.J. House.

Tomlin lasted just 1.2 innings in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Twins. He allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out two.

EDGE Analysis

Tuesday's 41-pitch outing marked Tomlin's shortest start since 2012. The right-hander gave the Indians four solid months (11-3 with a 3.48 ERA over his first 19 starts), but has been brutal since the beginning of August (0-5 with an 11.48 ERA over six starts). Tomlin's post All-Star performance has been so bad that his place in the rotation in now in jeopardy. Assuming he does make his next start, it will come Monday against the Astros.

Tomlin (11-8) was smacked around for eight runs (seven earned) on six hits and two walks over just 4.1 innings in Thursday's 9-0 loss to Texas.

EDGE Analysis

As has typically been the case, Tomlin struggled with the long ball, serving up his 33rd and 34th of the year. The veteran righty has now given up homers in an insane 14 consecutive starts, and he's allowed multiple homers eight times in that span. In fact, Tomlin's only had two homer-free starts all season. He also has failed to finish five innings on four occasions during his current five-game losing streak.

Tomlin (11-7) allowed six runs on nine hits, struck out five and walked one over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

The long ball was Tomlin's problem again on Saturday as it's been all year. He allowed three bombs versus Toronto, which makes it 17 homers yielded in his last 10 starts. Tomlin has allowed a home run in 13 straight outings. During that stretch, he has just a 3-6 record. Overall he is 11-7 with a 4.39 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 101 strikeouts in 141.1 inning this season.

EDGE Analysis

As expected, Tomlin will toe the rubber Saturday opposite Aaron Sanchez after spending a few days away attending to a personal matter. It's been a struggle for Tomlin so far in the second half -- he's 2-4 with a 5.84 ERA since the All-Star break after going 9-2 with a 3.51 mark in the first half -- as his home run issues have finally caught up to him.

Tomlin (personal) is expected to return to the team Friday, Chris Assenheimer of the Chronicle-Telegram reports.

EDGE Analysis

Tomlin was placed on the Family Emergency List on Wednesday, but it looks as though he'll only miss a couple of days. Technically, Tomlin can't be activated from the list until Saturday, which is when he's currently scheduled to make his next start.
