Josh Johnson left Monday's start against the Braves after six innings due to skin irritation on his right middle finger. In other words, he has a blister. The Marlins are calling it a precautionary move, and they expect Johnson to be fine for his next start. He was dominant before exiting, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out nine. The Marlins could trade Johnson this month.

Josh Johnson allowed a total of four runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs. Johnson punched out five while walking just one in the game. Aside from a solo homer by Starlin Castro in the fourth inning, Johnson had no trouble through the first six frames. In the seventh, however, the Cubs used a total of five hits to scratch out four runs and chase Johnson from the game. As expected coming off surgery, he's been very inconsistent from start to start this season. He'll take on the Braves at home on Monday, where he'll look to improve his 5-7 record and 4.35 ERA.

He'll look to continue rolling when he squares off against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Josh Johnson tossed seven innings of one-run ball Saturday against the Blue Jays, but was handed a no-decision. Johnson gave up just two hits all day while fanning seven and walking a pair. The only run scored on a fielder's choice via a bunt by Rajai Davis in the top of the second inning. The 28-year-old right-hander has allowed two runs or less in each of his last four starts, but has just one win to show for it. He'll carry a 3.96 ERA into a start next week against the Phillies.

According to MLB.com's Greg Zeck, Josh Johnson ''has been touching as high as 96-mph on his fastball.'' "It's coming out the same way as before, but my delivery is so much more consistent," Johnson said. "There's no point in trying to throw hard, and have the ball go all over the place." Johnson's velocity was down after missing most of 2011 with a shoulder injury, but he's 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA in his last seven starts. He'll take on Alex Cobb in the series finale Sunday against the Rays.
