Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Johan Santana is close to making a decision on a minor league deal. It's not clear which team he's leaning towards signing with, but Cafardo notes that there's "some speculation" it could be the Twins and that the Astros "could also have some interest." The Pirates, Yankees, Rays, Orioles and Brewers have also been linked to Santana this offseason. The veteran southpaw is coming back from a second surgery to repair a re-tear of his shoulder capsule but expects to be ready to go for spring training.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said Wednesday that the club is not interested in signing Johan Santana. Cherington said he looked into the possibility, but there's no match to be found. Santana is drawing interest from several teams, including the Pirates, Mets, Yankees, Twins, Rays, Orioles, Royals and Brewers, so he shouldn't have any trouble finding a home. Coming off another major shoulder surgery, he'll likely sign an incentive-laden deal.

Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Pirates have requested the medicals of free agent left-hander Johan Santana. The two sides are expected to meet on Wednesday at the Winter Meetings. Santana has also been drawing attention from the Mets, Yankees, Twins, Rays, Orioles, Royals and Brewers. The veteran starter underwent shoulder surgery in April, missed all of the 2013 season, and he will be 35 years old when the 2014 campaign begins. However he's an obvious high-reward candidate for a lot of teams seeking rotation depth.

ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand says there are eight teams with interest in free agent Johan Santana. The Mets, Yankees, Twins, Rays, Orioles, Royals, Brewers and Pirates are believed to be the eight. Santana is coming off major shoulder surgery and missed the entire 2013 season, but he's only 34 years old and may have some miles left in the tank. He seems likely to sign a one-year, incentives-driven contract this winter.

The Mets asked if they were free agent left-hander Johan Santana's top choice, but were told that it's too early in the process to know. At least seven teams are interested in Santana, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post. That number is probably coming from Santana's agent, Chris Leible, who said on Sunday that "seven or eight" teams had reached out to his client. Santana is coming off surgery to repair a re-tear of the capsule in his left shoulder. The veteran southpaw will surely have to settle for a one-year, incentive-laden deal.

Johan Santana's agent, Chris Leible, said that "seven or eight" teams have reached out to express interest in his client. The Mets are one of those clubs, but it sounds like they'll have some competition. Santana is coming back from a second surgery to repair a re-tear of his shoulder capsule in April, but he expects to be ready to go for spring training. The veteran lefty will surely have to settle for a one-year, incentive-laden deal.

Johan Santana (shoulder) is currently throwing from a distance of 90 feet. Santana underwent a second surgery to repair a re-tear of his shoulder capsule in April, but his agent, Chris Leible, says that his shoulder feels "way better." Still, teams might want to see him throw before signing him to a contract, so there's no clear timetable for a deal. A reunion with the Twins has been mentioned as a possibility.

LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Twins are "one of several teams" that have asked to look at Johan Santana's (shoulder) medical information. Santana underwent a second surgery to repair a re-tear of his shoulder capsule in April. The lefty's agent, Ed Greenberg, said doctors took a different approach to stitching the capsule this time and so far his shoulder is holding steady. Santana, who, of course, played his first eight seasons with the Twins, is throwing on flat ground from 90 feet and "feeling good," according to Greenberg. "Johan still loves Minnesota," Greenberg said. "It has created an interesting option for him. But it is in the early stages, and a lot of teams have contacted us." Neal notes that the Twins have also expressed interest in Ervin Santana, Dan Haren, Scott Feldman and Ricky Nolasco.

According to ESPN New York's Adam Rubin, Johan Santana is unlikely to sign with a team until late-winter. The free agent starter underwent surgery in April to repair a re-tear of the anterior capsule in his left shoulder and is still recovering from that procedure. Santana is currently throwing on flat ground from 90 feet and will likely begin showcasing himself for major league teams in a month. The Royals are known to have some level of interest.
