Johan Santana (shoulder) told reporters Saturday that he still isn't sure when he'll be able to pitch.
Santana was already set to open the season on the disabled list, but he hasn't thrown off a mound since March 6 and isn't anywhere close to pitching in a game. The Mets will continue to move him along slowly and have yet to give a timetable for his return. Jon Niese will start on Opening Day, while Jeremy Hefner will take Santana's spot in the starting rotation.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that Johan Santana (shoulder) is behind in his long-toss program.
Collins also said that Santana will stay in Florida when the rest of the team heads north for the start of the season. "He's not where he needs to be in his long-toss program," said Collins. "Even if it's next week, he's not going to open with us. He's going to have to get himself ready. And that's going to certainly determine on a daily basis where he's at. But we'll be gone. I'll have to monitor it by the phone." Santana hasn't thrown off a mound since March 6 due to a lack of shoulder strength and isn't anywhere close to game-ready. Jeremy Hefner is expected to take his spot in the rotation.

Johan Santana (shoulder) will open the season on the disabled list.
Mets manager Terry Collins made the announcement Thursday when he named Jon Niese as the club's Opening Day starter. It hardly comes as a surprise, as Santana is still in the process of building arm strength and has yet to make his spring debut. The veteran southpaw may still be weeks away from pitching in a game. Jeremy Hefner is the favorite to take his spot in the rotation for now.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that he didn't expect Johan Santana (shoulder) to pitch in a game this week.
Santana has resumed mound work, but he's not quite ready for game action. Although him being ready for Opening Day hasn't officially been ruled out, it's highly unlikely that he'll make the start.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Johan Santana (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday.
Heyman says Santana "felt well afterwards." There remains no timetable for Santana's Grapefruit League debut, but he'll likely need to throw live batting practice before appearing in game action. He remains highly doubtful to be ready for Opening Day.

Johan Santana (shoulder) could be ready to throw a bullpen session this weekend.
Santana was reportedly upset about how the Mets characterized his readiness to pitch upon reporting to spring training, but he said Wednesday that both sides are now on the "same page." The plan calls for him to take tomorrow off before a decision is made about a possible bullpen session. While the drama appears to be over, Santana is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.

According to John Harper of the New York Daily News, Johan Santana "remains bitter" toward the Mets.
The Mets disagree with Santana about his readiness to pitch and were upset that he threw an unscheduled bullpen session last week. Harper says the veteran left-hander is "barely communicating with club officials." It sounds like the type of thing that should blow over as time passes, but you never really know. Santana (shoulder) is expected to open the 2013 season on the disabled list.

Johan Santana (shoulder) was unable to participate in the Mets' morning workout before Saturday's game.
This isn't a setback, but it could push back Santana's Grapefruit League debut. While the Mets haven't officially ruled him out for the start of the season, Santana is expected to open 2013 on the disabled list.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday that he expects Johan Santana (shoulder) to pitch in a Grapefruit League game in seven days.
Santana has begun to throw lightly off a mound, but he'll need to pick up the intensity in order to meet Collins' expectations. The Mets haven't officially ruled him out for the start of the season, but he's running out of time.
