According to SNY's Michael Baron, Johan Santana is participating in all workouts and ''showing no resistance'' during team drills.
Santana has made it through his first three bullpen sessions without any setbacks and is scheduled to throw one inning during the Mets' Grapefruit League opener on March 6. Assuming he continues to progress, he remains a possibility to start on Opening Day.

Johan Santana (shoulder) threw his third bullpen session of the spring Thursday.
So far, so good for Santana, who is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Saturday. Barring any setbacks, he is expected to throw one inning during the Mets' Grapefruit League opener against the Nationals on March 5.

ESPN's Tim Kurkjian was told by "Mets people" that 100-125 innings from Johan Santana this season would be considered "a bonus."
This might sound like a doom and gloom scenario, but this would still put him in the range of 15-20 starts with an average of six innings. Santana threw 25 pitches during his first bullpen session Friday and said he "felt really good," but it's simply impossible to predict how his surgically-repaired shoulder will hold up as he increases his workload. Predicting how many innings he'll throw is pretty worthless right now.

Johan Santana (shoulder) said he "felt really good" during a bullpen session Friday.
"I finally had a chance to get on the mound and throw to a catcher, to Thole, and I felt really good," Santana said. "The approach that we had from the beginning was to do everything like I always do to get ready for the season. For me, it's about time to get on the mound and start throwing. And I was able to throw all of my pitches and it felt good after that." It's the first time Santana has thrown from a mound in a few months, but, of course, he made a couple rehab starts in the minors at the end of last season. He's scheduled for another bullpen session next Tuesday. The Mets are hoping he'll be ready for Opening Day, but he's obviously still a question mark at this point.

Johan Santana (shoulder) played catch Thursday in Mets camp.
It was a light tune-up for his Friday bullpen session. Santana has been drawing positive reviews from those who have seen him throw and might only be a week or two behind the other pitchers in Port St. Lucie. If the good news keeps flowing, he could begin climbing up from the bottom of draft boards.

Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen was impressed by some recent video that he watched of Johan Santana.
Warthen will get an up close and personal look at the strides Santana has made during a light bullpen session Friday. "I've been looking at video from when he's been down here recently and comparing it to video from 2008, before he got hurt," the pitching coach told the New York Post. "It's no different. Not even one percent. That's extremely important. It's just a matter of maintaining that." Santana hasn't pitched in a major league game since September of 2010 due to shoulder surgery.

Johan Santana (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a light bullpen session Friday.
Mets manager Terry Collins is encouraged by how Santana has looked thus far, noting that he isn't losing his arm slot and doesn't require lengthy intervals between throws. Still, it's hard to predict how his surgically-repaired shoulder will respond to the increased workload. The 32-year-old left-hander hasn't pitched in a major league game since September 2, 2010.

Johan Santana (shoulder) played long toss from a distance of 175 feet on Monday in Mets camp.
Mets manager Terry Collins said the rehabbing left-hander "looked great." Santana is expected to throw off a mound by the end of this week and should only be a few steps behind the other starters in Mets camp when spring training opens for pitchers and catchers in five days. He's aiming to make around 25 starts in 2012.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that he's hoping to get 25 starts out of Johan Santana (shoulder) in 2012.
The Mets are expecting Santana to be ready at the beginning of spring training, but general manager Sandy Alderson has labeled the left-hander as a "question mark" for Opening Day. Given that he's now 16 months removed from shoulder surgery but still can't be counted on for the start of the 2012 season, we'd have to consider 25 starts to be on the high end of projections for him. There's just no way of knowing until he starts letting it loose in spring training.
